Demons have the capability to take the souls of living beings and then devour them. They can do so by either touching the opponent or performing a ritual to steal souls on a mass scale. Rituals can only be done by staff during events. Eating these souls allows them to replenish their magic and also gives them access to the person's memories, but will cause that soul to die.

Here's the catch though. Even as a soul, you retain your overall power level and even have limited access to your powers. So, one of two things could end up saving your life. One, if your power level is the same or higher than the demon who is trying to eat your soul, they will NOT be able to eat you. Two, if you can somehow damage the enemy enough when ingested, they will be forced to cough you up.
