You really can’t make this up

Another season has arrived, and that means another official TA event! After the one in October, I was actually excited to see what it would entail.

The comm is here (http://aminoapps.programascracks.com/c/TeamAminoEvents) if you dk what I’m talking about.

The rules say not to share personal information with other . Not an uncommon rule, it’s actually really important. But then… I saw what their “act 1” was…

You really can’t make this up-[c]Another season has arrived, and that means another official TA event! After the one in Octob

TLDR: “Give US your personal address, then WE will give it to someone you’ve never met before!”

What the fuck??

I think the worst part is that they’re not even requiring this, you can still get the prizes without doing it. But then, in “act 3,” they tell you to take pictures of you making the DIY card that you sent to your mystery person. Supposedly, having done Act 1 is not a requirement to do Act 3 (there is no clarification yet on what that means or how it would be done). What makes it bad is that they are actively aware that Act 1 is asking people to share their personal information and are giving people the avenue with which to do so, but Team Amino said “yeah, this is fine.”

I just think the whole act should be thrown away if it’s not a requirement, or reframe it as “make a card to give to a friend or loved one in your life” instead of “make a card for a stranger, and also this stranger has your address now.”

“Just don’t do it if you don’t want to!” No shit, but that will not stop naive children or people who do not understand what’s going on from giving out their address and/or potentially paying for such a service (they had to set an arbitrary minimum price, but supposedly no payment is necessary), nor will it stop people from doing it who may not have good intentions—doxxers, stalkers, god forbid someone is close enough to the address they recieve and decide to invade their home or something (worst case scenario, but you NEVER know which is why you NEVER give out such information to STRANGERS).

Team Amino severely dropped the ball on this one.

The acts one is just genuinely weird and I thought preregistration wasn't allowed or some shit like that,, they tried to justify it but it's still the same thing :sob: :sob: :hand: I desperately want the cute set but I don't even think it'll be worth it.

The bubble looks like a snowglobe :sob: it’s really cute but not at all worth it, mandatory or not I don’t really think giving this event the time of day is a good idea. If no one/less people participate then maybe the stats will make TA go “hm maybe this was a bad idea,” since they don’t listen to the very clear we give them

I got curious and pretended to make an to see and uhmm yeah no it’s literally based on the honor system a kid is 10000000% gonna be lying here (it does not ask for any confirmation/documentation/etc.)

Also just for fun here are some of the other things it asks, and this is where I once again bring up how a child would not know better, what if they write on their profile something that gives away their location? Like a landmark they like to go to, their school, etc. Or again thinking worst case scenarios what if someone overlooks the allergies section or even worse an ill intentioned person purposefully uses it for harm (unlike but people on the internet are fucked up), TA can’t guarantee the safety (wether health, location, etc.) of anyone using this website. They are not involved. They just found a quirky website and decided why not. This is not intended for children as the own website says, but amino is, they should not be promoting this.

This might seem dramatic but I like like a wave of worry over the allergy thing. Irl I've had people use it my own allergies against me and I've ended up in the hospital a few times. People are fucking awful, especially on the Internet. I can see someone using a kids allergies against them this is so fucking dangerous- genuinely tf is TA thinking????

Yeah, seems weird

Like... There's definitely some kind of virtual version of this that would have worked like...

Idk. Handing digital postcards over to the organizers to distribute to participants at random 🤷‍♀
