Nyctophobia
"The Fear of Darkness"
Growing up, I was afraid of the dark because of the main reason of not being able to see where the monsters are, so when it's my turn to turn off the lights, I'd usually go running back to a lit room after I flicked the switch to a room off.
Around the age of 15 though, the "monsters" just don't scare me anymore, and the phobia just disappeared into the darkness like it did when I turned off those lights years ago.
In a sense, I did conquer the fear.
(Although I could say it took a while for me though)
