Been considering getting into oil painting for awhile, but have some questions. Is it difficult to get into? Is is hard to do fine details, and what are some recommendations for paints for someone on a budget? I really enjoy pen and paper, but the details I include in my drawings are usually lost to the eyes. There is only so many ways to shade with a black pen and differentiate between subjects with certain textures or cross hatching. I feel as though I am unable to fully express the concepts I desire to exibit because of a lack of color. Added a drawing to showcase what I mean by lost details. Some things blend in or are indistinguishable from another. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you did a great job
This is with acrylic paint.
I think that having some nice hog bristle brushes for foliage detail is most important.
Personally I like your pictures but you are right that is can be hard to express yourself with a ballpoint pen.
I've never used oils...
The chemicals for cleaning, the try times and stuff. That always put me off.
Acrylic paint seems to work for me.
Can't get the hang of watercolour
I would say the oil is more forgiving because it dries very slowly and you can mix in I believe Lynn seed oil to make it a little thinner for the finer details although it is more expensive so I would start with oil pain at Walmart or buy a set on Amazon because it's cheaper at least to just try it out
