They snuck further into the building, clomping their way up the metal stairs. Well, Broken clomped his way up, between his big boots and his metal foot he made quite the racket. “Shut up.” Bolt hissed. “If I don’t get us caught your stomping will.” “This thing is solid steel, what do you expect…?” Broken flicked his tail. He climbed another few steps before disappearing into the Other. “This’ll work…” he said as Bolt ed him. “How much further are we? Stairs are probably worse for-“ “only another floor or two…” he interrupted. “Need to get to the… think it was the bar or somethin’…”
They emerged at the top floor and carefully peeked into the bar. A few people chatted at tables and sat sparsely at the bar, leaving plenty of room to go unnoticed. Broken left the Other as he started towards the far end of the room where a man was loudly chatting to whatever poor sap was across from him. “Hit him from here and let’s go.” Bolt whispered. “Cameras…” he flicked his ears. “Unless you wanna cover me…?” Bolt weighed his options for a moment before splitting off. He carefully poked around for cameras, using the Other to turn them off before Broken ed them.
”I mean, I guess it was kind of my fault. But can you really blame me? Anyone would have thought the same, I should probably still apologize though. But not first, I’m not apologizing before she does-“ “who is she…?” Broken held a knife to the man’s face. “My friend… who I go out with. On occasion.” He said. “What did you do…?” He flicked his ears. “I thought she was seeing someone on the side. She was seeing someone, but I guess it wasn’t as big of a deal as I thought. I mean, we’re not dating so she can do whatever she wants. But I hoped I meant at least a little more than that.” He rambled.
Broken was quiet for a long moment. “You ever go to Wasted Punk…?” The man looked up. “I going but not leaving.” He nodded. “Who is she…? I’ll consider whatever cash you’ve got on you payment…” “her name was Eleanore-Darian but she always went by Eda. She hated having such an elaborate name, she said it made it too obvious that she came from a rich family.“ Broken looked to the person across the table as he continued rambling on and on about his lover. He gestured for them to keep quiet and stabbed the man so hard he toppled out of his chair.
”I thought we weren’t supposed to get caught!” Bolt appeared next to him. “We’re not gonna as long as you got all the cameras…” he wiped off his knife. “Not by the cameras but he sure isn’t letting us walk out of here.” He gestured to the bartender quickly approaching them. “He ain’t that scary…” Broken cracked his knuckles. “Don’t do that.” Bolt stood next to him. “You’ll get arthritis or something.” “Reem only says that so I’ll stop doin’ it…” he flicked his ears. “If you two cooperate this will be easier for everyone.” The bartender said. “Security is already on their way up, they’ll be here in a few minutes to handle-“
Broken punched him in the face. He stumbled back and held his nose as blood started pouring down his face. “Hey I wanted to hit first.” Bolt huffed. “When was the last time you got into a real fight…?” He asked. “Last time we played in the snow.” He huffed. “You sit back ‘nd babysit, I’ve got this…” Broken stepped back and kicked the bartender’s chest with his metal leg. It clicked and clicked and exploded with a second burst of force that sent him flying. Bolt stood watching like an idiot.. “What was that?!” He whirled around to see Broken crumbling in on himself.
”What happened?” He leaned down. “What did you do?” “Kill him ‘nd let’s go…” Broken hissed. “You heard him, security is on the way ‘nd I really don’t feel like gettin’ caught…” he scampered over and stabbed the bartender with an old pocket knife while Broken slowly limped his way back to the service stairs. “Are you ok?” He asked as he caught up. “Get to the damned truck…” Broken hissed. “Don’t worry about me…” he didn’t fuss further, staying behind to help Broken hobble back down to the ground floor as much as he could. They crawled into the truck and sped back off towards home.
Broken closed his eyes with every bump in the road, jumping and twitching every time the truck jolted. Bolt stayed quiet as they drove back towards the office, even as Broken’s heavy breathing turned to hissing curses. They parked as close to the door as they could and made their way inside. Broken slowly lagged behind, holding onto whatever furniture or wall was closest as he limped along. “Are you sure-“ “yes.” He snapped. “It’s just a few more hallways, I’ll live for gods sake…” Bolt hung back and looked away every time he stumbled. He held onto hope that Anubis of all people would talk some sense into Broken and make him sit down.
