AUTHOR'S NOTE

Wow, I'm back... FIVE YEARS LATER!! I hope to post more regularly here now that I'm almost done with high school.

This piece is inspired by Bear Ghost's fantastic song Haunt, The Cartoon Heart. I've been playing around quite a bit with color palettes and silhouettes nowadays, but not in a way that involves complex shading and backgrounds. So, I decided to step out of my comfort zone a little and get to work. I've recently fallen out of love with my shading style, so I decided to try something new, and I'm SO glad that I did.

The man with the mask in the foreground is Blackjack; as a superhero, his civilian identity is his most well-hidden secret. So, when a bounty hunter (a friend's OC) begins to stalk him and hold this information over his head, he feels utterly helpless.

All in all, I really like how this turned out!! This is just a good ol' case of trying out a new way of doing things and being successful for once.

initial sketch

The initial sketch was a little painful to make, especially with the perspective, but I was satisfied enough with it that I just HAD to keep going. I don't want to leave another WIP to rot for all of digital eternity in my art folder.

secondary sketch

I actually DID ponder leaving the drawing this way, but my friends liked it so much that I decided to give it a LOT of sprucing up.

layer proof ft. the magic pen

Now might be a good time to say that I use an older version of Clip Studio Paint on my laptop. I draw with an even older screenless Wacom tablet, which has served me for eight long years. Sure, I had to replace its wire once, but old technology really is built to last.
