As Deep as The Ocean [Levihan One-shot]

Dedicated to my RP son. I was excited about this contest because of a Mermaid AU we’ve been doing, and this one-shot’s kinda based off the story we created together. This was kinda rushed so it can still be an entry, but I hope you like it, guys!!

Nervous. I feel very nervous right now. I’m standing on a boat in the middle of the sea, alone with a raven haired man waiting for me in the water below. I’m afraid I’ve been making him wait for too long. I trust him with all my heart, but I just can’t help but feel extremely nervous when told to do something like this. His hand with webbed fingers were held out towards me. All I have to do is to take them, and jump straight into the water where he’s waiting. He looked at me with his gentle, reassuring gaze, waiting patiently for me to finally make up my mind.

“Come on. It’s just like jumping into the swimming pool,” he said. I trust him. As deep as the ocean. I know he won’t lie about this. With just a single hop, he’s going to take me to explore an entirely new world. A world that only he knows, and mysterious to me up to this moment.

It took me a while of convincing myself that everything’s gonna be okay before I could finally take his hand and climb down into the water. There was a splash as soon as I threw myself in, and the ravenette haired male beside me flinched as the splash got to him.

“Sorry,” I said nervously as I swim closer towards him. There was an awkward silence for a while as we gazed at each other’s eye before he finally pulled me closer to him. I could feel the scale allover his tail with my legs. My feet were almost touching his fin. I looked up to him, and he was still giving me that reassuring look.

“Right beyond this point, it’s all about trust,” he said, gently caressing my cheek with his slim but webbed fingers. “I’m gonna have to ask you, Hanji: do you trust me?”

There was no more doubt in me, and I immediately gave him a steady nod in response.

The corners of his lips perked up a bit, and without saying anything else he leaned in to kiss me. I wasn’t expecting that, and didn’t get the chance to react either. Right as he pecked my lips, he slowly pulled us both into the water. He kept pulling us deeper, and deeper, up to the point where we’re far below the surface.

It wasn’t long before I ran out of breath, and I got panicked for a while. He kept kissing me, however, and somehow he’s keeping me from struggling for air. Something tells me to just relax, and not worry about what’s happening around me. I began to surrender after a while, and just keep clinging on him. I chose to trust him, after all, so I surrendered. I knew he wouldn’t let me drown, and he wouldn’t let go of me no matter what.

And then magic happened.

All of a sudden, I felt a slightly stinging pain on my neck. I was in pain for a while, until the stinging suddenly stopped. I ran out of air as the pain faded, and immediately pulled away from the ongoing kiss. I felt that I couldn’t use my nose anymore, so I had to breathe though my mouth instead. It was very strange... I’m actually breathing, but not with the help of my nose.

It wasn’t long until I noticed a weird sensation on my neck where it pained earlier, and couldn’t help but to feel it using my fingers. This time I was surprised by two things: one, my hand felt as if I was just pulling them out from a bottle of glue. Two, there were weird lines on both sides of my neck. It felt like the lines where opening and closing gradually every time I inhale oxygen. Could these be gills? I then looked at my fingers, which turned out to be webbed like the one’s belonging to the man before me.

When I looked at my fingers, I also caught glimpse of the silver scales covering up my legs. Actually, they aren’t legs anymore. They’re now a tail. A mermaid tail. I could see the fin replacing my feet touching the one belonging to the man before me, and was speechless. For a second I got worried that all my clothes would disappear along with the transformation, but when I felt that my upper body was still covered with the t-shirt I jumped in with, I was relieved.

“You look great,” the man before me said.

“Did you just... transformed me into a mermaid??” I exclaimed in disbelief as I observe the changes that happened to me.

“Sort of,” the raven haired merman shrugged. “The tail suits you, by the way...”

His compliment caused a wide smile to form across my lips, and I happily twirled around. It was a hard to move with my newly formed tail, so I made sure to not do it too much until I get the hang of this. The undersized merman saw me struggling, and immediately guided me throughout my movement. He taught me the proper way to swim with a mermaid tail, and I felt like a kid being taught how to swim for the first time.

It took me less than hour before I could manage to use my fins properly, and once I did I swam around while cheering happily. “Wheeee!! This is so cool!!” I exclaimed as I twirled around. I heard a faint laughter escaping from the man’s mouth right after I cheered, and was surprised to see him popping beside me out of nowhere.

“You’ve seen nothing yet,” he said, gently holding my hand as we started to swim side by side. “You ready to begin, my love?”

I giggled. I was overwhelmed with excitement of what’s waiting for me from beyond this point. I gave him a steady nod as we sped up onwards.

“Yeah! Let’s go, Levi!”
