“First encounter and impression”
Greetings fellow Survey Corps ,
Allow me first to introduce myself -- I'm
Haruka, or you may call me Haru for short!
I am a member of the Underground Journal
and new curator here in the community. It's
a pleasure to be part of this countdown
event to celebrate the final episode of
Attack on Titan! Today, I'd like to share with
you how I first stumbled upon this incredible
series and the impression it left on me.

I was starting out high school when Attack
on Titan was first becoming pretty popular.
Back then, my friends and I had a tradition of
hanging out at the local Barnes and Noble. It
was a sanctuary of sorts, where we would
lose ourselves in the pages of various manga
titles. My own preferences leaned towards
lighter, more magical girl-oriented series like
Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor, and Fushigi Yuugi.
So, when AOT was first recommended to me,
I was ittedly somewhat hesitant.
As you see, I wasn't one to gravitate towards
heavy angst or gore in my manga or anime
selections. However, since my girlfriend at
the time was so insistent that I give it a
chance, I couldn't help but be a bit curious.
With a sense of trepidation, I picked up the
first volume of AOT and began to read.
To say I was immediately gripped would be
an understatement. The world that Isayama
crafted was both terrifying and mesmerizing.
It was a huge departure from my usual reads,
but it was undeniably captivating. What truly
drew me in, though, were the characters. In
the midst of chaos and despair, there was an
undeniable resilience that shone through
each member of the Survey Corps. As I
delved deeper into the series, I found myself
forming connections with these characters
that I hadn't expected. Their struggles and
triumphs resonated with me in ways I can't
readily put into words (but which I think is a
unifying experience amongst all fans of the
series). It was a testament to the strength of
the storytelling that even amidst the gore and
heart-wrenching angst, I was utterly invested.
And so, my journey with Attack on Titan
began -- a journey that defied my initial
expectations and introduced me to a world
of complexity, death, and raw emotion. It's a
small reminder that sometimes, stepping out
of our comfort zones leads to the most
profound discoveries.
Until next time, fellow comrades.
~Haru
