Like A Melody

Huh it’s already been a year hasn’t it.

You know that saying that time heals wounds? It was true.

The people I lost along the way slowly became easier to talk about. I was able to go to their graves.

But god you were different.

Everytime I try and go to your grave I see your last moments flash before me.

Your deep brown eyes looking at me like this was the right thing to do. Wind swaying your hair as if it was already taking you.

My hand in yours holding you as you say goodbye. The way you caress my face with your damaged hands

Your mouth saying those final words to me and only I can hear them in all the panic.

Those last words are like a sad melody being played at the worst times. A broken record player constantly jumping.

Standing here looking at you now is too much. Like a tsunami is coming in and I can’t swim.

Here I don’t see your dark brown hair and your stupid smile. All I see is a stone surrounded by other stones.

Knowing you don’t like flowers and all that stuff I place a small notebook on your stone. Small tear slides down my face.

Here in this notebook is our latest research and advancements. You won’t read this but it is something better than some flowers that will die.

I take a deep breath and I get back up from placing the notebook. With one final tear I gather myself to leave.

“I love you four eyes”

the wind howling just like that one day. Almost like it’s a sign but I don’t need a sign to know that my thoughts will never change.
