Things aren’t what they seem // S t o r y

There He was watching his family and subjects talk and have fun after his sister’s funeral, she was the queen of Atlantis, she had just ed away a week ago from human causes, that's all he knows about it.

Erwin knew that there was more to the story of his sister’s death but he didn’t know how to get that information unless he asked the person who killed her or caused her death. Which was impossible since there was no way to find the human(s) who killed her. However, Erwin was still so determined to find the murderer of his dear beloved sister.

As the Funeral started to get emptier Erwin swam his way towards the front gate of the City under the sea :ocean: . Erwin needed to find out this mystery. His tail moved in the water smoothly and quickly as he made it to the huge golden gates.

“Sir, why are you here at this hour? The queen’s funeral is going on?-“ the guard that watches the gate stated in a confused tone.

“I’m the king, I have no time for that when I could find the people who did this. Now open the gate please Thomas.” Erwin explained trying to stay calm, he has already cried for a week, he didn’t need to cause a scene after all.

Erwin then swam out the gates and moved his tail and body in the water feeling relaxed, for some odd reason just swimming around made him feel calm and relaxed, he kept going towards the crime scene where they had found her body dead.

“Hey, Worker #007 make sure to stay after for your parent's work since they can’t show up and do it them damn selves.” Levi’s boss yelled through the bar, his boss was hella annoying for some reason.

Levi nodded and wiped down the bar table, and then saw some more sailors walk in to get drinks and probably some food as well.

Levi hates these men. Sailors talk too much for his liking,

Levi was a simple citizen in a small town that was ruled by a king and Queen, they were rude to their subjects but what could do about that? Yup, nothing.

Levi was a bartender at a local pub and a crews-mate on a ship for the King’s vacation ventures, it was hard having two jobs but at least the king doesn’t have many vacations thank god.

Levi didn’t like his jobs that much since both involved talking to some degree but he didn’t Ming it as long as he got his money’s worth at the end of the week.

The sailors ordered their drinks which were beers and one milk, and then as Levi thought that wanted some food. Levi knew most of these sailors since they came here often, but a few were missing. They probably died at sea which was one of Levi’s fears.

Later after he Cleaned up the bar and the tables he left to go get ready for tomorrow, tomorrow was the day he set off to go take the king to his Vacation on an island with his family.

Levi hates that damn royal family, they treated him and others like bags of dirt. It made him pissed all the time.

It was the day he was to supposed to set off on the ship, he got dressed in his outfit which was a white button-up tucked into some light washed Jeans that he cuffed at the ends, he also wore his favorite black boots that almost went up to his knees, since he is shorter than most men.

Levi made it to the boat and then waited for the king to give the take-off signal, Levi was apart of the crew but his job was the tell the Captain to sail off when the king said to.

Levi also was supposed to help watch out for any storms or any other weather problem, and he was supposed to help move things around the ship when needed.

Then after an hour or so, the boat took off into the wide, blue, deep, and beautiful seas off to an island.

Erwin then swam out the gates and moved his tail and body in the water feeling relaxed, for some odd reason just swimming around made him feel calm and relaxed, he kept going towards the crime scene where they had found her body dead.

Erwin never understood why his mind could not talk or even look at humans, he knew that they hated merfolk but enough to kill them? He didn’t think so, maybe he was too naive or gullible but he didn’t think that people that had so much could be so evil.

Erwin just kept swimming around the area in which his loved one had died in, it took him a few hours until he realized that there was nothing else to find here, which brought his spirits down a little.

Erwin then saw a huge shadow form over him, it was a shape of a ship, he had never actually seen one before, others mermen have talked of them but he never thought they were real.

Erwin being the curious merman he was decided to swim up and take a look through a little hole in the ship, he saw people like him but with... weird parts for tails, he wondered how they swam like that, they didn’t look efficient at all. Erwin also saw one person that looked...interesting, the person looked mad or upset in a way, he was mysterious.

Erwin then heard the men screaming at each other and then they started to panic.

“LEVI! It’s the captain!! He ed out and isn’t breathing!!” One of the skinny crewmen said yelling at the shorter crewmate.

“I’m going to go tell the king, just make sure we aren’t going to hit anything-“ Levi said running off to the king’s quarters.

Erwin then saw that they were going to hit something and fast, which made him scared, not for himself but for them. He looked at them again trying not to be seen by anyone.

“Hey! Levi, I SEE A HUGE ROCK!-“ one of the crewmen said before Levi could make it to the king the boat rocked back and forth, Levi being near the railing tripped overboard.

No one saw this happen other than Erwin, Erwin being the kind soul he is swam over to the short man with weird parts and helped him to the closet shoreline, without hesitation.

As he sat the other man down he saw just how the man looked. He has black hair that is short and middle-parted, a white shirt that is wet now, jeans, and his face is weirdly beautiful.

Erwin didn’t know what those things were so he touched them, they looked long but they also had a small part with 5 other small parts that wiggled each time he touched them.

Erwin then just looked at the man mesmerized by this man he had saved. He looked so sad but also soft. He saw the other's eyes started to open so he hid the lower half of his body under the sand so the human would not know he was a merman.

“Ugh- what happened? Oh yeah- I fell off the ship- wait who saved me?” Levi thought aloud holding his head in pain, which was bleeding a bit.

“I did- I happen to live by here,” Erwin said trying to think of lies. Levi looked over at Erwin who had half of his body covered in sand.

“Uh- why is your body under the sand? Ugh sorry, I should be saying thank you, for saving me and all.” Levi said mad that he was bad thanking people.

“It’s fine, I’m just cold and the sand is warm. But uh- no need to thank me I wanted to save you. I’m Erwin.” Erwin explained internally face-palming himself after that bad excuse ‘I’m cold’.

  Levi nodded

“Ah, I’m Levi, Levi Ackerman. Do you know where we are?” Levi asked wondering how he was going to get back to his home, this place looks like a whole other island.

Erwin tried to think of a fake name to call this unknown island but couldn’t think of one.

“Uh- we are on Kuki island,” Erwin said trying to make it sound believable.

“That’s a place I have never heard of. Is it near Atlantica?” Levi asked wondering how far he was from his home.

“Uh- yeah I think.” Erwin lies again, it made it feel so bad, he couldn’t lie anymore it is killing him.

“No, I don’t know. Look I’m going to be honest since I honestly believe that you aren’t like other humans. I’m a merman from Atlantis, I’m the king in fact even though I don’t want to be. I was curious as to why your king killed my sister so I swam out of the kingdom and I found your ‘ship’ and then I saved you and now we are here.”

Erwin explained sighing he was happy that all that guilt was off his chest, he hated lying. Levi started to laugh.

“What?! You are funny as hell.” He said after laughing at the ‘joke’.

Erwin chuckled and moved his tail up and down out of the sand so Levi could see it, Erwin's tail is a blue color with fins and dark blue accents to it.

Levi jumped back and held his mouth shut in disbelief, he had never seen a mermaid or merman, he thought that they were fake a thing that little kids liked to believe in but they are real! And he is talking to one! The king of them!

“I-“ Levi started but didn’t finish.

“I know, you’re shocked. My sister said humans were most likely going to be shocked when they saw us, but I seriously mean you no harm, I saved you. I think I can maybe swim you back to your boat, but you have to hold your breath for a While.” Erwin explained hoping that Levi didn’t hate him now.

Levi was still shocked but then soon came back to reality, which was hard to believe right now, he then deiced to take his chances. He wanted to see his 3 Cats back at his house so whatever that took he will risk it, and oddly enough Levi trusted this Erwin man.

” Okay, I can hold my breath for about a minute or so.” Levi said wishing that he could do it for longer.

Erwin nodded

“Tell me when you’re ready and then I’ll swim you back, just be warned that we merfolk swim very fast, and try not to touch the other water creatures, they may not like your kind,” Erwin said as he crawled deeper into the water so his body was half in and half out of the water.

“I’m ready, “ Levi said walking over to Erwin wondering how this was going to work.

Erwin then grabbed Levi’s short and small frame and pulled him above the water. Erwin then held Levi to his side so they were holding each other tightly. Levi then breathed for the last time before going underwater.

Erwin then started swimming fast while sneaking quick glances at the man he was holding, Levi was looking at all the cool things under the sea while holding his breath.

Levi then realized that he was about to out from the lack of oxygen he Nudged Erwin’s arm and pointed to his mouth trying to tell the other that he was about to out.

Erwin understood but there was no way to hurry that fast so he had to think of something else which he did. Erwin then nodded and very quickly kissed Levi and shared his air with him while swimming, he was glad he knew the way to boat beforehand, he knew the island it stopped on.

Levi was shocked that Erwin could swim and give him air, it was very impressive. Levi took the air like a greedy person he seemed to be.

Levi also noted that Erwin was a good kisser.

Erwin then let go of the other's lips for a minute to bring them above water.

Levi then saw it his boat, but after this crazy series of events, he kinda didn’t want to go back.

“Here we are, you’re boat,” Erwin said kinda disappointed that he would have to swim all the way back to his kingdom alone.

“Hey, is there a way that I can stay in Atlantis? Just curious “ Levi said looking over at the blonde with beautiful eyes.

“Hm. I mean the kingdom is in a huge water bubble so the baby merfolk can breathe since they can’t when they young, so yeah you can you just can’t swim as quick and you can’t leave the kingdom for too long. Why?” Erwin explained.

“I hate my jobs, my home, well I love my cats but they are annoying sometimes, actually. I think I wanna live with you in your kingdom. I mean land life sucks, I have to work two jobs for barely any money, then I have to do taxes which suck ass.” Levi ranted as Erwin smiled brightly.

Erwin was so happy that life sucked up there, he would have a guest in the castle that didn’t die last week, no one has visited him since his sister's death which was annoying and it made him feel weak, people don’t take him seriously so maybe if someone like Levi was there it would be fixed.

“That’s how I got Levi to stay here and be happy, sure he isn’t like the rest of us but he loves it here nonetheless, and we even visits the land sometimes. Then after a year of being best friends, we decided to get together and then get married two years after that. Then we adopted you silly.” Erwin said softly as his child went off to sleep.

“Did you really tell him the whole story?” Levi asked swimming over to Erwin and sitting on his lap, or tail as he would call it.

“Yes, I do every night that he asks,” Erwin says leaning up and giving his husband a kiss on the lips, it was soft and sweet.

“You’re so cheesy,” Levi said back laughing

“You love cheesy.” Erwin shot back.
