Waves crashed over the petite young woman. The amber sky was dotted with clouds. The bright sun shining against the sand, making it glimmer. Her short brunette hair swaying in the messy ponytail it was kept in. Chocolate brown eyes opened beneath the foam. The salt stung but, at the same felt so pleasing. Lapping waves pressed against her thin body. Froth emerged from the water as she pushed her arms and bust upwards. She gasped for air and her body sank slightly.

The water was slightly deep beneath her. As she swam closer to shore, she could feel the soft sand beneath her toes. Shells pressed against her feet gently. Their shape leaving an imprint on her soles. Her swimsuit was a dark black, many straps intertwining on her back. The sunlight reflected against the clear water and her fair skin.

The beach was fairly empty at this time of day. It was the morning, and only a few couples and families were seen splashing about. Dogs ran across the shore, their leashes waving behind them as their owners chased them. Seagulls cawed from above. Swarming food left behind. Children built sandcastles with wet sand molding through their hands. Couples walked hand in hand, watching the sunrise. Lifegaurds were far away from the area.

With another gasp, Ymir dipped her head beneath the water. Seaweed tangled her feet for seconds. Her mouth closed tight as she swam further from shore. Every few moments she would come back up for oxygen. Soon enough, she was isolated. Just the way she liked it. Nobody to bother her, silent. The distance calls of birds. The distant chatter. She was the lonesome type. Put off as the snobbish and rude type. In all honesty, she was.

Larger waves began to form. They curved downwards, crashing onto the water. As another wave built up, her eyes gazed at it. It came crashing down upon the girl, sending her into the depths of the water. Choking on the salty water, she pushed her arms up. Her throat stung and the water almost burned her. Struggling to pull herself up, her body felt weighted. Ymir wouldn't make it in time. Her neck and legs ached. Searing pain pierced her body.

As her hands reached for her throat, she felt her fingers string together. Her nails grew dramatically, claw like. Gums pained from the lengthening and sharpening of her teeth. They felt almost rubber-like. Her neck opening into slits. Her skin pulled back to reveal dark skin. This would be her final breath. Today would be her last. With yet another gasp, the girl breathed in the water. No suffering or pain. She was able to breathe. Her legs had strung together into one, weighing her down now. Skin breaking to reveal black tough skin.

This couldn't be happening. How was it happening? What did that wave do to her body? The brunette couldn't quite tell, but she had changed. A mermaid. Like one of the legends. Everyone knew them to be myths. But as it turned out, they were true. She had no idea she was like this. Her new tail appeared like the ones of a shark. Were there others? Would anyone find out? Could she change back?

With a powerful flap of her newfound tail, she pushed into the depths of the sea. Lost, in this new body of hers. This was her new home-the sea. Her old life was gone. Now all that was left, was Ymir and the tides.

The mermaid swam through the ocean. Her arms pulling her forward. She now craved delicate fish and seals. The freckled girl had changed over these past few months. Her hands gripping onto a jagged rock, she yanked her heavy body upon it. Her thick skin laid across it. Her thin pupils looked over in the direction of the far shore. From this distance, she could hide her tail. And appeared as a mere swimmer.

A blonde girl sat on the sand. Her feet dipped into the cold water. Ymir didn't quite know her name, but there was something about her that lured her in. Maybe one day, she could talk to her. She was a new lifegaurds at the sea. Almost nobody was in the area at this time of night, so she was alone and quiet. Her red swimsuit clung to her body. Her thick hair pressed against her face, damp.

Ymir sighed softly. The stars reflected against her. Her body was now covered with scars. She had found out she was a great white mermaid. Even as she wasthec the mysterious girl, she knew. She could never go back. Even if she was out of water like this, she couldn't go back. Even if she swam close to the shore, the girl would be frightened by her. She could never go back. The tidal wave had changed her life.

Valeria? Including YumiKuri in a fanfiction? Unheard of. But here's my entry! I hope you guys like it! I might make another part to this or some fanart. Because I like this AU a lot honestly. So look forward to that! And yes, the image isn't Ymir, but I wanted to make an aesthetic and it sort of looks like her.
