The literature club prompt this month is to discuss a book from our childhoods! I have chosen The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani which was published in 2013.

This is a fantasy book, and the first book of a series (and I confess it is the only one I read because I was scared the others wouldn’t be as good). The basic plot of this book is that every four years, two children are stolen from their homes and taken to the School for Good and Evil. In Gavaldon, a young girl Sophie dreams of being taken to the school in order to have her happily ever after. However when both Sophie and her best friend Agatha are taken, things don’t work out the way Sophie dreamed.

I being so obsessed with this book, and I still have plans over 10 years on to read and finish the series. I have the book next to me as I type this and the nostalgia is rushing back. As many fantasy books do, it starts with a map of where the story takes place. This book contains an illustration of the school which I fell in love with.

Fun fact, when I finished this book, I ran to tell my mum the entire plot. I was so excited and talking so fast that I actually ed out. Not my proudest moment but it gives you some idea of how much I loved this book.

Another slightly more fun fact is that the first book has actually been made into a movie! I believe there were very mixed opinions from people who were fans of the book but personally I loved it and I think it did quite well for an adaptation. The author himself was involved (and also in!) the movie, so no one is more qualified to adapt it than him.

Also, the cover image I have used for this blog comes from the book trailer! I believe their are book trailers for the first 5 books but there haven't been anymore made for the recent ones. I used to watch these trailers like everyday I'm not kidding. Even though I haven't read past the first book, I would still get excited for the new trailers.
