Last time I went their birds looked so sick and scared. Entirely seed based junk diet.
It is where I found my Basil and fell in love with him but at the same time I hated ing Petco!
I wanted to see what you think of Petco!

With chain stores they get so large that caring for individuals becomes irrelevant. I doubt the CEOs or anybody at the top of command know anything about animals. They’re just making business, profit over quality. They make more money when parents have to rebuy the sick and dying animals for their kids over and over anyway
FACTS!!
It's chain stores with literally every animal and sadly even if they somehow hire educated people and they care for them okay, they're still more than likely sourced from mills.
It's why the best is to avoid them or only every get animals for free or if the store has a rescue section eventually as more and more people do it stores will start to realise they aren't making money off then as that's ultimately what they care about, yk?
And usually there will be some sort of bird being rehomed, or some local breeders or stores owners to be can research and see whether they are good or not, or even look for individuals within safe shipping distance, as ultimately animals are being shipped to chain stores anyways.
Also, sadly chains likely will always have poor care within their standard care guides, as they'll favour you buying their own products even when they are useless or even downright dangerous. And sadly I've heard the idea that some stores purposefully allow or make animals like miserable or in bad condition it means even knowledgeable people get sucked in, and end up ing even if they get a big discount :pensive: and honestly that sounds very likely imo, would not put it above people when there's businesses out there consciously making products for piss poor care, cause I refuse to believe a business can believe a frog species requiring 10-15 gallons minimum can live in a 0.5 - 1 gallon plastic container and call them horrible swimmers, which they definitely aren't. :dizzy:
Yes 100%!!! I couldn't help but feel bad for Basil and I almost feel like that may be a selling point for them as well. (Or maybe not they may just s u c k). I usually avoid the store unless someone drags me there.
I got my second bird Sunny at a lovely family run pet store and she was much better off!

Ye, usually I'd say the best thing about chains is sometimes they'll get amazing branded products in, like arcadia products for reptilians can be hard to come by in America (I thankfully live in the UK), but I've seen were some people get lucky that their local chains will bring them in from time to time and they'll stock up on bulbs (UVB and overhead heating elements), or other branded things including enclosures and diets can be good, since you can research individual brands and know the store can't screw those up. As ultimately chains do serve an amazing purpose I just believe many should never be allowed animals.
