Intro

I only read two books this month, but I wanted to make a wrapup anyway, so here it is :). Both reviews are spoiler free.

This is a collection of short stories, and I was expecting to like some, but not all of them. Surprisingly, every single one was a total hit! Some where more cozy, some were more unnerving than others, but they all still had that same dark academia nothing is as it seems vibe that I love a lot. I highly recommend this book.

I thought this book was alright. It was a beauty and the beast retelling, and I liked the main character and the love interest. What made me enjoy the book the most was the setting. I love, LOVE, a cozy fantasy setting, where the main character spends the whole day baking bread, picking berries and meeting strange creatures in the woods near town. I will eat those stories up every time.

What made it less of a success for me was the plot. The magical world, the villain and the climax didn't really bring much to the table. A book doesn't need to be action packed for me, a romantic fantasy doesn't even need a villain if you don't want to add it. I would have been happy with a simple romance, but if you choose to add villains and elaborate lore, you should at least commit. Secondly, as much as I liked the couple, the book ended with a lot of things unsaid.

Basically, it was a fun read, but at the end I just thought: is this it? What about X, Y and Z? I was left feeling a bit unsatisfied with it.
