Week 04

Why are you ARMY?

What about BTS makes your heart beat? Why did you start stanning BTS? Why did you choose to be called an “ARMY”? What made you become a Kpop stan?

Explanation

You don’t need to answer all these questions. Essentially, the question we’re asking you is why you like BTS. Why are they special? Why are they the group that you stan? Why not another group? Why is it BTS? Why are you ARMY?

My answer: At first thought, I can not think of as deep an answer as some would. I wasn’t facing a life crisis that BTS have helped me through. But their music is different for me because of the magic in their lyrics. No, BTS are not the only artists I’ve listened to whose lyrics have captured me; artists like Kendrick Lamar, Nirvana, and I bet many Kpop artists write thoughtful lyrics. However, BTS was just unique; it was the one that stood out among the other artists. I first took a liking to them because of the funky Idol MV. After listening to that song on repeat, I felt a connection to BTS. I watched some American interviews and fangirled silently. What really made me comfortable with calling myself an ARMY though, was the I Need You MV and its lyrics; whatever meaning I saw from those lyrics connected to me. It felt like that song understood my perspective of love and my fear of love. BTS are special to me because their career is an inspiration to me, and moreso because they are idols I can connect to. Their shows such as Run! BTS and VLive, etc. allow me to feel as if they are grounded and not high-headed celebrities; they’re different from other kpop groups too because of their widened international presence. Honestly though, even after this long answer, I do not know why I’m an ARMY. I love Taylor Swift, but I’m not a swiftie. I love BTS, and I am an ARMY. And tbh, I don’t really know why. I don’t think I care too much though, that I don’t know.

My brother has always listened to kpop and my cousins as well so I was always surrounded by the music genre. However they didn't stan bts in particular as they weren't that famous back then, though I heard some popular songs like dope of them. I started stanning bts in 2017 after seeing blood sweat and tears and the whole concept just caught my attention. The MV was shot amazingly and the lyrics were interesting. I started watching more and more and then eventually started stanning them♡ To sum it up, their concept was much different from other kpop bands and western artists what made me start stanning them

Bts Hug Fairy ♡

i actually got into bts and kpop because my closest friends had just got into it. I was surrounded by it so got curious. However, it was honestly one of the best things i come do. My life was pretty dark at that time and i really believed they helped me.

I think primarily for me, i always loved BTS for their depth. There are so many other bands that don’t have many layers, but i always loved how much work, effort and time is in everything BTS do. Like the don’t just have vanilla songs, each lyrics means something, their mvs always mean something. Furthermore, the meaning aren’t cliche, they preach messages of self love and often help with charity. Idk i just find that outstanding.

Another reason is one i’ve never been able to explain. But when i first began getting into them, they shone like this big hopeful light. The moment i saw their faces or heard their voices, my day would become brighter. They just gave me so much hope that everything would be okay. They are truly inspiring.

I’m an ARMY because i love and bts.

I was once a "metalhead" , active in the underground scene, bands, concerts, gigs, fashion, relationships, way of living to the point of SDR - its a story I'm not proud to share, but when I started to listen to BTS music, I got hooked like its a miracle of life - to the point of receiving dicrimination/hate from people I thought my friends because of my sudden transition of playlist. I wans't really a fan of Kpop music before BTS even if the music is already popular back in 2008. Its only just BTS after so many groups I heard and known, only these 7 personalities opened my heart, ears and mind. Their music knows no language barrier, their individualities and being together as a group I enjoy discovering and learned to love, the friends I met and built because of them its unbelieveable, imagine a woman at late 20s whose already settled, graduated and working -- being this young at heart again going back to fangirl self being inspired by younger people than me, these idols whom I didnt expect to respect a lot as an artists (NO BANDS ever I have devoted before). I wish its easy to answer, but definitely if you see through their messages, life experiences, behaviors, professionalism, relationship to fans and how true they are, who wouldnt love them? I'm a proud adult ARMY.
