I started out writing a list of what august pages I wanted then wondered if I should do that in the Bullet Journal also?
Do you use a planning page in journal or seperate piece of paper?

I have found that having a planning spread in the bullet journal itself is super helpful because then u don't have to worry about losing the page or forgetting which notebook u wrote in. Plus, it can be a guide for later months as well.

Very good point! Or if I loose where I put the piece of paper I will know where to look.
Yeah, that can definitely be a spread on your bullet journal :)
