I am probably the wrong person
to write this post, because my
answer will always be "no".
As this has been a big discussion
at the end of every year, I learned
a lot from others and here I will go
with a pro/contra argumentation,
and then you can decided what
speaks more to you

The common journaler, you can spot in
the wild, is a regular notebook addict.
Visiting their home will reveal a wide
variety of empty notebooks lying around
in their shelves. For the common journaler,
it is a life task to fill as many notebooks
as possible through the course of their
life. The Journaler is constantly torn be-
tween the wish to start a new gorgeous
journal they have lately acquired and the
guilt of leaving their old Journal behind.
This dilemma leads to a variety of mental
health and financial problems because
they try to compensate their bad con-
science by buying new journals.

If you are anything like that, a new year gives
you the opportunity to get out of this dilemma.
Giving yourself the permission to beginn a new
Journal, will allow you to have a new start. We
all have spreads in our Journals that we do not
like, that make us unhappy. Normally it would
be wasteful to start a new Journal, but if you are
truly unhappy with your current Journal and the
set up does not work for you, then yes, starting a
new notebook can be a solution. I am sure you
learned a lot about Bullet Journaling and about
yourself in the previous year, a fresh start is your
chance to get it right, and create a more efficient
system of spreads for yourself.
For some people it is very important to have a
fresh start. Sometimes you have bad memories.
Things happened, you would rather like to forget.
Looking at your Journal triggers pain and past
experiences. You don't have to be remineded.
In this case it is important to change to a new
Journal.
Lastly, some of us are super orderly and organized
people. We think in categories, shelves, structures
and systems. It is helpful to depend on such things,
because they make life easier, more productive and
efficient. These people need everything of one year
in one Journal. Why? Because it's more orderly. It
has a structure and it has sense. It would feel like
clutter being dragged along. They could not find
anything in their Journal anymore, important info
they needed. It basically would lead to a total fall
out and certain death. To prevent this, it's better
to break a new notebook.

In times of climate change, it is important to
take care of the resources we use. Most of
our resources are not endless, and the production
always costs energy. If there is no need to start
a new journal, keep your old one. It is perfectly
fine to continue to use the one you already have.
Ryder Carrol invented the Bullet Journal system
to be flexible. The index and future log are your
conpanions even in the new year and will help
you to orientate yourself. Why waste perfectly
good paper, just so you can indulge in a new
Journal? It is wasteful and hurtful to our
environment.

All the previous memories from the past year
still are part of what makes the current you, you.
Not everyone wants to give that up. All the
achievements from the previous year that keep
you going, when everything else sucks. You will
not have that with you in a blank and empty Journal.
Some people started projects that are still running.
In that case you probably need your current notes
from the previous months. They might have also
started their Journal together with the current school
year. Everything is already set up and the time
it would need to transfer all the notes is longer than
just setting up the spreads in your current Journal.
If you are a long time journaler chances are high,
that you have a lot of gorgeous spreads. A new
Journal would mean, you need to come up with
new fancy layouts, new spread ideas and it would
mean leaving your favorite spreads behind. Just
imagining all the time you need to create all those
new spreads should be painful. So, better not.
Turn the last page after December, create a new
cover for 2020, update your yearly spreads in the
same layout and just continue like before. Breaking
a new notebook means work, time and effort, not
everyone wants to spend that. And it's fine, if you
don't want to. IT IS PERFECTLY FINE TO CONTINUE
IN THE CURRENT JOURNAL YOU LOVE LIKE
NOTHING ELSE.

After all, it is normally a sad occasion to leave
your old Journal behind.

My Christmas tracker fills the Last Page of my current bujo so i will start with a new one but continue with the Layout :kissing_heart:
Im not really happy with my current journal set up, I've been using an a5 journals for the past two years and I constantly feel like I need bigger pages. But, I don't have the time or the money to buy a new journal next month. So I think I'll just set up a really pretty 2020 spread or two and try to finish this journal. BTW, if anyone has a recommendation for an A4 notebook with really thicc , like 160 gsm pages, let me know
So I'm a person who does not journal consistently AT ALL. Which means I've been using my journal for a year and I still have more than half left. And I love my journal, so no thanks
I always start a new journal every year. If my old one has space, I usually use that space to practice making new spreads or ideas I have to see how to execute it. So really, I usually end up using both journals anyways.
That's actually my plan for 2020, to use both my old journal and my new one, since this is my first year with a jounal I didn't use to much of it so the rest of the space will be use for new ideas of spreads.
I'll start using a new journal cause my current one will have 10 pages left only. Otherwise I would've continued using the old one cause I hate wasting good paper
