Caught In the Crossfire

Four years before the Ultra Beast Invasion, there was a boy named Sun.

Sun came from the same world as the Ultra Beasts. He had found himself lost in a new, more peaceful world. Curious and eager, Sun began to explore the new world. He bad been trekking through a field of long yellow flowers, being flocked by strange creatures, when he met a girl wearing a white dress and a large white hat.

"Oh, hello." She said to him. "Are you lost?"

He responded by nodding to the stranger, beginning to brush the flowers and cotton off of his clothing.

The stranger nodded and held out her hand to him. "My name is Lillie. What's yours?" She smiled, beaming with kindness.

Sun took a moment to respond, awestruck by the beauty of the girl. "My name is Sun." He took her hand and shook it.

"Sun? It's nice to meet you, Sun. Here, I want you to meet a few people." She then took him, still holding his hand, to a village. She then introduced him to her brother Gladion and her best friend Hau.

Gladion was a bit of an edgy guy, always keeping his hands in his pockets and wearing a black hoodie with a red streak across its chest. He and Sun were friends, but enemies at the same time.

Hau was a much more friendly and energetic person, greeting Sun with a bright smile and a firm handshake. The two quickly became friends.

A year ed, Sun living with his three newfound friends. At some point in that time, Sun took Lillie to a park one night and confessed his love to her. She happily took his hand and pulled him in to a kiss, telling him that she would never leave him.

The next day the two lovers told Gladion and Hau. Gladion wasn't thrilled about it, but he and Sun managed to keep their friendship through Lillie. Hau, on the other hand, was ecstatic about the news. He eagerly congratulated the two before hurrying off to tell everybody.

The years ed by, the four friends keeping their bonds through it all. They shared the holidays, accustomed Sun to the norms and traditions of the new world, and live happily together.

That is, until the invasion came.

Without warning, a large black portal appeared in the sky. It began to spill out Ultra Beasts, which began to ravage and tear apart the land. Sun and his friends fled, confused and afraid of the new alien creatures. Sun didn't understand. Why would his people suddenly attack? Maybe something had happened while he was gone. But to invade a new world and destroy it... that wasn't right.

Gladion, in an attempt to save his world, went out to war with his companion Silvally. They left in the night, sneaking away before anybody could stop him.

The two of them fought long and hard, but eventually were overpowered and killed by the Ultra Beasts. Word travelled to the three remaining friends, who were left to grieve.

Desperate to avenge his fallen ally, Hau threw himself in to the fray of the war. He, too, was slain.

Lillie and Sun were left to fend for themselves, running and hiding from the Ultra Beasts that hunted them. The two came up with a plan to summon the two Great Protectors of the Land, using a magical flute. Lillie took the flute and began to play.

The Protectors heard the music and came to Lillie, fighting against the Ultra Beasts and almost changing the tides of the battle. Unfortunately, a new threat came in to play: Necrozma.

Sun, in a final line of defense to protect Lillie, went to the Guardian Deity called Tapu Koko. The two ed forces and entered the war, striking down countless Ultra Beasts.

At some point in the war, Lillie came to Sun in tears. She begged him to stop fighting and to flee with her to a different world, but he insisted on avenging their fallen comrades.

Suddenly, Necrozma appeared. It destroyed Tapu Koko before ripping Lillie away from Sun and disappearing.

The War ended the day after when the Ultra Beasts were cast away in to a rift in time and space, scattering them across the universes. Sun was left alone, mourning and grieving the loss of his friends. Gladion. Hau.

Lillie.

Sun had fallen in to a deep, dark pit of despair. He was driven mad by his utter solitude, left with only his own dark and depressing thoughts. He searched for anything that could revive his friends, but nothing helped. Not rituals, not prayers, nothing.

He was lost once more. But this time, he had no beautiful Lillie to find him.
