OKAY! I have something to say

soooo... this is something I have always felt to be a problem in RP, a problem that is seemingly ignored and even sometimes defended by people. This problem has driven in so far into the RP community, that it’s even stated in some basic rules! This problem is a small and simple one, but it has a huge impact. This problem, is what I call SOLR.

Now, if you know me, you probably know that putting that in all caps meant that it stands for something, so I will explain.

SOLR is Safety Of Limited Role-play. And this refers to all the things that limit RP, such as rules that say “no sexual smut, limit cussing...” stuff like that.

the two examples I have are normal and I am not disagreeing with those at all. Sexually explicit content and being to vulgar both are normal to limit, but there are the limits such as impenetrable barriers, no fighting zones, no technology zones, no breaking anything... stuff like that.

so, some of you may have already heard me talk about this in OOC, but some o you may have no idea why this would be a problem, because nobody wants their chat to be broken or raided, so no breaking zones and impenetrable barriers are fine, and no fighting zones are okay because some people just don’t want any RP fights to happen in their chat...

HERE IS THE PROBLEM

these rules that people add make things... well... a little broken, and lead to broken situations. I will name off examples:

•person A’s OC is horribly angry at person B’s OC. Person A attacks person B out of the hatred that the character has in the storyline. UH OH, THERE IS A NO FIGHTING RULE? Person A is forced in a situation where there storyline breaks because the rules limit the RP from being the great story that it could be.

•person A tried to slap person B. Person B pulls them behind the counter as they defend the attack in an engagement. Person C is friends with either person A or B and attempts to enter the situation. UH OH, TE RULES SAY THAT AN IMPENETRABLE BARRIER LIMITS PERSON C FROM GOING BEHIND THE COUNTER. The situation is now broken.

now, I have seen these problems happen all over the place so manny times, and I have only recently decided to make this post because I always thought that the rule was already to far gone, but I’m hoping I can get my voice heard and you all can understand. Having stuff like this witch forces the situation to turn from what an OC would do, to what an OC now has to stop and change all in order to compensate for this broken system.

RP is an ever-going story here, and the story is so amazing to watch unfold in its free form, but instead, it’s restricted to these limiting factors that keep the story from flourishing. Please do leave your in the comments and please, I hope I can get this up with the community and maybe even get to the curators and leaders getting things to change for the betterment of the community.
