Survival.
Go after pinnacles, or weekly challenges. Try to “farm” prime engrams, and make sure you have your highest gear on when popping them. I’m sure there are also certain bounties that’ll drop higher gear, but I’m not too sure. Raids, Nightfalls, and ranking up in Gambit / Crucible will also drop higher gear. Probably not the best option, but Xur also drops higher light gear from his exotic engrams (the ones for 97 legendary shards; can’t the name). Hopefully this helps a tad, and good luck to you fellow Guardian!
Do the same things you do to get power (That's how I got 1000+ at least)
Prime engrams, season armor, pretty much anything that is guaranteed to get you gear. Look for stuff that rewards legendary gear or powerful gear.
