🧐First we need to understand that at first to win YGO was enough with reduce the opponent's life points to 0 or resist until the opponent's deck will be empty. :man: 🏼‍🦳But when the rule to have max 60 cards in deck isn't exist, the only tarjet was the opponent's lifepoints. :joy:

Later, with the 60 cards in the deck rules and more floodgate cards, the 3 ways to win were: lifepoints to 0, empty the deck or do that your opponent surrender by floodgates cards or a stall deck.🤦🏻‍♂

The game rose the speed to play, born the specialist combos and the special summon growth up. 🤷🏻‍♂Those things make the scenario to finish the duel faster. The duel gets time's limit to play. 🤓And to this point the way to win were beating the opponent by: lifepoints, deck, surrender, make the combo faster than the opponent or block his mind to lose by timing or floodgates. (in those all periods exodia was present, I didn't forget him. :man: 🏻‍ :school: He was the first and real Win Condition)

Now, we know that DL is the same but konamy

tries to give us faster duels and for this, the timing is less than MD, TCG and OCG YGO version games. But, the anothers facts mentioned before stay yet in the game.

The only thing that makes different this game' period is that the specialist combo was became into an archetype combo (before it was about 1 or 2 combos to win, directly by salad monsters with high attack or interesting effect). :disappointed_relieved: But now, it's about an strategy that makes possible a multi combo with the same goal (It's not trying to be linear).

The decks that tries to be a linear combo deck, for default tries to be the fastest combo front opponent's combos or at least, block efficiently others combos. :disappointed: Cuz when you block his combo they surrender, normally. :joy:

The strategies try to base on 1-4 combos (in DL 1-2 combos usually). Because DL is the fastest duel version game and if you play it you need to finish it the most quickly possible.🙄 That's the another reason why the strategy in DL are linear tactics, apparently. The decks that tries to be less faster usually can't stay for a long time in the metagame. The game has a timing about 2-4 turns normally.

And in Master Duel (the official virtual yugioh game from TCG/OCG version) the strategies are not linear you can make a lot of combos and a fast duel usually is about 3-7 turns. It's the standard in a game right now.

:relieved: If you understand the rules and know how can you win using the rules. Now we can talk about how we can elaborate a strategy to win.

:grimacing: We'll be fast in this: there are some many strategies base on the stuff that can give you the victory. And each strategy usually can be combined with each other and make another strategy with 2-3 targets :dart: (like Trickstars in MD):

1. Win Condition Strategy. :trophy:

Base in to Assemble a The Forbidden Exodia. When you do it, you win. Also you can use cards allow you to get those cards (Exodia's Parts). (Note: now there are more win condition's card, like Number 88 for example)

2. Beatdown Strategy. 🥊

The basic strategy to summon a powerful boss monsters and destroy their monsters and attack directly. (the action to attack is the center action in this kind of decks and you can improve this with cards that increases the monster's attack and protect you when you do it). Its better version can make OTK (One Turn Kill).

3. Stall Strategy. :football:

Is the Beatdown's opposite. Just it wants stay using a high defenders and wait the moment to attack. Usually it has a boss monsters who can attack with a big power or a swarming monsters to low the opponent's life points slowly. (you can use monsters or traps that stop the opponent's attack, not only monsters with high def. The idea is stay and clean the opponent's field and attack after this).

4. Control Strategy. :tennis:

The idea is not destroy and attack actually, it's about prevent, protect and avoid those one while you try to reduce his life points to 0 or provoke a surrender condition. (you can make union with all strategies but this one is the most better to do it). It's the master strategy behind the floodgate cards and hand traps.

5. Burn Strategy.🧨

It consists in reduce the opponent's life points to 0 directly with card's effects. Now we can see new cards that became this strategy in something danger, like the Red Eyes Flare Metal Dragon. (you actually need to add protection cards while you reduce the opponent's life points). The best version of this strategy is the FTK (First Turn Kill).

6. Milling Strategy. :bowling:

The strategy that wants to defeat you left you without cards to draw. Don't underestimate this strategy. The best version of this can make you a STK (Second Turn Kill),in DL it's possible. Although, its target isn't your life points.

7. Antimeta Strategy. :fishing_pole_and_fish:

It's a minority in the game, but it's a deck with a simple goal: destroy the current meta or at least one of those meta strategy. Usually it borns by the hate of some meta deck or with the desire to make a new meta deck defeating another meta deck easily. The power of this strategy is the study and performance of one deck to be unbeatable front a particular meta deck. Always this kind of strategy surprise the yugioh's community. Lol

8. Toolbox Strategy.🥋

The difference between this strategy and the last one is its goal. The Antimeta wants defeat the meta and this one wants to be prepared to win front anyone with the most variety strategy it can make possible. The power of this strategy is understand the bases of each opponent, break it and defeat them with your own. All in middle of the duel. The Yugi' Style. Some people call this one: Salad Deck (contemptuously).

:warning: But this kind of deck has a big problem: the inconsistent that it cans be. To have so much mini strategy inside or puzzle's pieces (each cards)🧩 it needs concentration and luck to draw the cards that you need to defeat the current opponent each time. :slot_machine: :joy: (do you have heard about Destiny Draw??)

Well, it was a large post but it's the pillar of the game actually. But you need take the next note:

A deck consist in a strategy to win and you need to understand that a strategy born with a specific target to win (the Resources of the opponent's using your own) :

:scroll: Life points, deck, hand's cards, field (monster/pendulum, spell and traps), Extra deck, graveyard, banished Zone and Extra monster zone (in MD and TCG/OCG).

Think about it, which resources does use your strategy, to reduce one of the opponent's resource? And which cards can improve your deck to do it?🤔

:performing_arts: The next post we'll talk about: "Deck Analysis".

Enjoy and pull it of at to next level!

I mean Sky Striker is a pretty consistent toolbox deck. They have a wide array of spells that are adept in many situations, and the entire deck is searchable

You are right my friend. That's a good one. But it's not easy create a toolbox like that.

Which another toolbox is a good one, too? Maybe an Antimeta deck with whole meta in target, but Sky Striker is an archetype, instead. It was create to do that well and sur the big problem that I said.

Konami do it well when they made it. Congrat  🏼 🏼 🏼
