"Volo's Guide to Monsters" is a DM's and Homebrewer's best friend!

Not to brag, but I recently purchased it myself on amazon (as well as some new dice).

But it's not about what I got in the mail order, it's what I got FROM it!

"Volo's Guide to Monsters" (VGtM) is a game supplement that allows you to further understand the history and lore of several of it's intriguing races. It even has some of the layouts of the homes and lairs that each of the monsters inhabit. It provides the following chapters:

Beholders: Bad Dreams Come True

----------------------------------------------

Giants: World Shakers

----------------------------------------------

Gnolls:The Insatiable Hunger

----------------------------------------------

Goblinoids: The Conquering Host

----------------------------------------------

Hags: Dark Sisterhood

----------------------------------------------

Kobolds: Little Dragons

----------------------------------------------

Mind Flayers: Scourge of Worlds

----------------------------------------------

Orcs: The Godsworn

----------------------------------------------

Yuan-ti: Snake People

Not only that, but it provides 7 new character races to choose from, each with their own official racial traits and characteristics! Said races include the:

Aasimar, Firbolg, Goliath, Kenku,

----------------------------------------------

Lizardfolk, Tabaxi (or "CatFolk),

----------------------------------------------

and Triton

And last but definitely not least, we have the icing on the cake of Monstrocity!

Notice any old monsters missing the new 5e Monster Manual? No problem! It provides updated stats for most of the 4e (or 3.5e) monsters. And, as per tradition, they added a few new ones too! Now keep in mind, it won't have all of the older monsters, but I'll be happy to list off a few. It includes, but is not limited to the:

Barghest, Bodak, Chitine (<3),

----------------------------------------------

Deep Scion, Devourer, Ghirallon, Grung

----------------------------------------------

And variants of the races in the aforementioned chapters (Kobolds, Orcs, Hags, etc.)!

There are of course more, but I would want to at least leave something to the imagination.

Now, this is in no way, shape, or form an endorsement or ment for the book. I just see this as an interesting product that is useful to those who would like to take a different path with their experience of the game.

So if you'd like to check it out yourself, I'd personally greatly recommend it. It's a refreshing look at the monsters that I've read over many times over. And I can't wait to implement a few of them in my game!

I hope you all found this interesting and potentially helpful to yourselves. I'm glad that this article was able to help you in any way shape or form that it has!
