Well, in the end we'll post the link to the original blog because giving credit and so on ;D
So without further ado, let's head straight into it!

Was Thranduil's wife a sindar?
There's not much information about the King's wife. We only know that she was captured and brought to Gundabad where she soon died. But there's nothing more we know about her.
So it's only fair to ask what type of elf she was. Of course, most of us will say she's sindar. But there's an extremely weak evidence that she might have been a Silvan elf. Let me explain this to you in the following:
.
.
.
>Thranduil is mentioned alongside Galadriel and Celeborn as one of the Sindar's Princes. The fact that his wife isn't mentioned may imply that she wasn't a Sindar elf. But it could also mean that she wasn't as high-ranked as Thranduil, Galadriel and Celeborn.
"[M]any of the Sindar ed eastward and established realms in the forests far away. The chief of these were Thranduil in the north of Greenwood the Great, and Celeborn in the south of the forest."
(Return of the King Appendix B "The tale of Years" (i) the second age)
.
.
.
>Thranduil is identified as Sindar, but Legolas is not. This might (!) imply that Legolas isn't fully Sindar. But this isn't a very strong argument.
"Thranduil father of Legolas of the Nine Walkers was Sindarin, and that tongue was used in his house, though not by all his folk."
(Unfinished Tales Part 2 The Second Age Chapter 4: "The History of Galadriel and Celeborn" Appendix A The Silvan Elves and their Speech)

Galwe's opinion
Since we both like Thranduil a lot, this was an amazing topic for discussion. Although it didn't last very long since we immediately agreed on one opinion:
We think that she indeed was a Sindar elf. Argumenting that with the fact, that the kingdom might not have accepted her as their queen if she wasn't Sindar. But that's just a theory of us.
In our theory we think that Thranduil met her when they were both teenagers/kids. There wasn't much going on between them, but Thranduil always loved her in some way. And then, when his father Oropher died, she was there for him. They fell in love even more and he decided to make her the queen of Mirkwood.
But again, that's just our theory ;D
