Greetings~ It’s time for another blog for the Health Care Team. This time, Wanda suggested doing a prompt on 5 plants to brighten your home. I am going to start by prefacing that I do not possess a green thumb, so there may be some other plants that work better.

Anyways, we’ll see what five plants Fairy Tail characters are using to brighten up their homes. I hope you guys enjoy this little blog and let me know what plants you love having around your home.

If you’re interested in reading some more suggestions than these five, these are the sites I found these listed on:

Perry Homes

Good Housekeeping

Acurite

Peace Lily

These pretty and sweet flowers would definitely be a plant Wendy Marvell would have in her home to brighten up the space. Not only are they pretty to look at, but they help purify the air which is perfect for a Sky Dragon Slayer who eats air to gain power. Another benefit of these flowers is that they are low maintenance and easy to take care of, Good Housekeeping mentioned that they are “ideal for those who tend to overwater plants” which is something simple I could see Wendy accidentally doing as she knows plants need water but wouldn’t know what overwatering meant exactly. Perry Homes also mentions that they show when they need water and both sources mention at least once a week would do which I think would be great for someone like Wendy who isn’t always home as she is out on adventures majority of the time.

Note: If you’re thinking about getting these flowers, be aware that they are dangerous if consumed in large amounts and are toxic to cats and dogs.

~Levy’s Plant~

Pothos

Seeing the image of pothos as a vining plant, I thought it would look great in Levy’s place on all her bookshelves as added decoration. The leaves would hang off the top of the shelves and give it a nice look around the books. Reading from both Perry Homes and Good Housekeeping that they can grow in any lighting, even near pitch-black, made me think this would be perfect for a library that could have some shadowy spots from the windows. Levy would keep her pothos near the window for healthy growing plants but they she could also move them to the darker areas of the room as they are easy to divide according to Perry Homes. Pothos doesn’t sound like a difficult plant to maintain as it only requires watering every one to two weeks and ideally watering when the soil is completely dry, so seems perfect for those of us not with green thumbs.

Note: If you’re thinking about getting these plants, be aware that they are dangerous if consumed in large amounts as they can cause vomiting and are toxic to cats and dogs.

~Juvia’s Plant~

Parlor Palm

Reading the description from Good Housekeeping that “Parlor palms love humidity, so you may want to mist the leaves frequently” immediately made me think that it would be a perfect match for our resident water mage Juvia Lockser. With her body being made of water, it makes me think that her home could be a little more humid than other places. If this plant thrives with humidity, I think Juvia would love it. It only needs to be watered every one to two weeks, so if she were to go on a quest, it would be okay to be left alone. Juvia might also really love a plant that can grow tall and these plants can grow up to six feets. It would be an easy think to have in her home that would help fill up the space nicely.

~Chelia’s Plant~

String of Hearts

Honestly, when I think of love and hearts, my mind always travels to Chelia and how much she loves her friends. When she first saw the String of Hearts, she fell in love (pun not intended but works) with the heart-shaped leaves and it would fit perfectly in her room. She would keep the plant by the window and let the plant grow on her desk as it loves bright, indirect sunlight. Besides that, it seems lower maintenance as it only needs watered when the soil is ⅔ dry so every one to two weeks like the other plants the Fairy Tail cast are collecting.

~Lucy’s Plant~

African Violets

The color is so beautiful on these violets and they can fit into a nice smaller size pot as well. When I read the line on Acurite about “...they’re an excellent choice to brighten up your office desktop, where their purple or pink flowers will provide a nice pop of color to cheer you up” I immediately thought of Lucy’s desk where she writes her stories and writes letters to her mother. According to the Acurite, they are pretty low-maintenance as they are good in low light and a good occasional soak. I also liked the added info that they’re easy to come across in supermarkets so they would be easy for Lucy to get her hands on and hopefully they run cheaper if they are common and popular. These violets would be perfect for Lucy to have in her apartment, even with her going on quests and adventures constantly. They add the perfect color to her room and definitely would be cheerful after all the long days she’s experienced.

~Hiccup’s Plant~

Fake Flowers

I don’t know if this is cheating or not for the prompt of 5 plants to brighten your home, so I’m including it for myself. I work a lot and am so drained by the time I get home that I would not have time for any plants. My solution to this problem is to have fake flowers. I have a couple vases of flowers I’ve inherited from my grandparents that brighten up the living room well. I also bought a set of Memorial Day flowers long ago shortly after my grandfather ed away that just reminds me of him. The flowers themselves are beautiful to look at but also the sentimental aspect of them being my grandparents’ really just make it peaceful for me. It’s also nice knowing that they are always there. I never have to worry about these flowers wilting or have to worry about when I watered them. They will always look the same, I may just have to dust them after a long time lol. They really are beautiful and easy to use and personally, these give me good memories and peaceful moments.

-Conclusion-

There are 5 (6) plants to brighten your home. I tried finding ones that were easy to take care of and lush/pretty to look at. A couple of them are toxic to animals so I made sure to note those for anyone thinking about these plants, but feel free to do deeper exploration into these plants if you’re thinking about buying them and maintaining them. I hope you guys have good luck with the plants and enjoy your space. Plants all have their own unique good qualities about them and I wish you luck in finding the best for your space. Until next time, dear fairies~
