GAJEEL’S FINAL EXPLOSION?!?!

Alright hard joking aside welcome! Today I’m gonna be talking about Gajeel’s trip from evil to good. Decided to avoid doing another character analysis since I’m pretty sure people have done that before(Heck people have probably done this too, but it’s gonna be different since I started with MEMES).

Gajeel’s First Appearance

Cold hearted and merciless. His first appearance really makes the viewers know that he’s nothing like Natsu. Monstrous and evil. Out of all of the Dragon Slayers, Gajeel was the first to show what happens when a Dragon Slayer goes to the dark side. The idea of showing the good and bad of powers has been done in both Media(Movies, TV shows, etc) and in Anime/Cartoons.

What really adds more to Gajeel is the way he uses his powers. Unlike Natsu who mainly uses fire around himself to attack, Gajeel creates weapons and extends its in different ways. Although at times he also just fires a “Metal Blast” or covered himself in Iron, the series shows its other capabilities which adds to Gajeel as not just being a Dragon Slayer, but THE Iron Dragon Slayer.

Also can we talk about how this man gave a huge shock to Fairy Tail and isn’t dead? Crazy.

Gajeel s?!

I’m sure a lot of people had the same expression as Joseph heh. The bastard who beat Lucy senseless and trashed the guild. ONLY TO IT! Definitely a nice plot twist.

Later in the same episode(41 btw), Gajeel lets Levy’s Team beat on him. Not only that he saves Levy from Laxus’s lighting attack. I will it this is a little too fast but it also works; Gajeel may not like his situation, yet he must adapt and try to fit in as best he can. Sure he may be toxic and rude however he’s a member of Fairy Tail now, he’s got to act like it(Sort of heh).

This is the true starting point of him slowly becoming good.

Near the end of the Laxus Arc, Gajeel does 2 WHAT moments. Working with Natsu to battle Laxus, later saving Natsu from Laxus’s Thunder Spear. To me this seems a lot better when it comes to character development for Gajeel. Wanting to battle Laxus not only for payback, but because he kind of likes the guild despite hating literally everyone.

Tenrou Island, Redemption

Personally I think this is where Gajeel has been accepted by the guild, and in turn he accepts them. To think Gajeel wanted to work with Levy, LEVY! The girl he crucified a couple arcs ago! I really do enjoy the banter and bond they build up, enemies to friends.

Rewatching Gajeel and Levy VS Yomazu and Kakuzu, shows Gajeel seeing his own self in his attackers. Attempting to do what Gajeel did, believing they will eradicate Fairy Tail. We also get to see the infamous “Recruit Scene” showing Markov wanting to help Gajeel even after what he’s done. I really loved rewatching this fight, shows that Gajeel really thought about changing. That here and now he’s become a member of Fairy Tail. The darkness is gone leaving only the light.

Vegeta

For those who don’t know, Vegeta is from Dragon Ball Z and is another character who turned from evil to good. I wanted to compare his own journey and why Gajeel could’ve been better(Yes I know that Fairy Tail was originally going to end after the Phantom Lord Arc, and that the author can’t see the future for how long their series will run. But I thought it’s a valid point to bring up).

Evil

Despite Gajeel doing some terrible things in his life, Vegeta does x10 more in DBZ. My man kills people, blows up planets, and even bullies kids :joy:

Vegeta was more selfish and prideful than Gajeel. For a while his character remained the same until like Gajeel, where Vegeta had to work with the main cast to reach his own goal(Although for Gajeel it was just ing the guild). It takes Vegeta a decent while in both years/episodes before we see him slowly becoming a good man.

DBZ is split into 4 main Arcs(That technically have their individual arcs but that would waste a lot of time):

Saiyan Saga

Frieza Saga(Or Namek Saga)

Androids Saga

Buu Saga

Vegeta in the anime I believe takes around 4 years before we actually see him become fully good(Cutting out Majin Vegeta where he went evil for a short period of time). The anime does a good job of making him still his own self without compromising his character. When he eventually does become a “good guy”, much like Gajeel still has his personality intact.

Gajeel mainly has a good character arc, and it makes sense for him to change as he grows up and evolves. I just think he needed more time to warm up to the place before heading into good territory.
