Hey everyone! It's been a while, hasn't it?

For those of you who missed me- It's okay; I've missed blogging for you guys as well :sob: :sob: .

Adult life sucks and is so busy but I just had to come back online and write this hopefully beautiful piece of writing on what I feel is a very underrated and not spoken about enough relationship between Mystogan and Wendy! I've recently been rewatching Fairy Tail, and this little yet super significant story to Wendy's chatacter truly touched my heart, and I would like to go through it with y'all once more so without further ado let us jump right into it!

    Wendy & Mystogan;

                           Lost in Fear & Solitude

Solitude Meaning ; The word solitude means the state of being alone, often by choice, and can be either peaceful or lonely depending on context.

Once upon a time; in a land far, far away, there once lived a young prince. Full of life and magic, he was eager to lead his kingdom one day. But the kingdom's light hid away a darkness of great concern. A darkness which the prince's kind hard could neither believe nor comprehend. The magical kingdom he believed he knew very well was actually a lie; one that was perfectly created by his father, the king of Edolas. Unlike the worlds around them; Edolas was not magical as the king claimed it to be.

In fact, the prince one day found out that the magic he and everyone else living in Edolas loved so much was being stolen; taken from worlds, not theirs with the other world's unaware. This discovery, however, unlike with his father the king; did not sit well with the young prince. He had a kind and just heart and was against the destruction of another world in order for his to continue on living as it pleased.

With that taken into , the young prince knew he was the only one able to stop his father from committing such a horrible deed, and so he set himself on a journey, alone in the world known as Earth. There, the boy would journey alone for years; searching for a way to destroy the anima used to steal away earth's magic and put an end to his father’s madness. This prince was but a child...

Was he not lonely? Was he not scared?

All alone in a world he barely knew...

Fear Meaning ; A noun and a verb that refers to a strong, unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that something is dangerous, threatening, or likely to cause pain. Synonyms include: terror,

dread, anxiety, fright, panic.

Somewhere among the lands of Fiore, there lived a young girl. Younger than our prince, she lived under the care of Sky Dragon Grandine. Under her guidance, she learned the magic powerful enough to slay dragons each and every day that she and the dragon spent together. The child was happy and fine. She had no parents; no real family.

However, none of it mattered because she had Grandine to help get her by. That was, of course, until one day... Grandine just up and vanished. Without a warning or farewell, the dragon had vanished without a trace; leaving the little girl stranded and alone in a world a thousand times bigger & scarier than the little girl.

The little girl panicked, afraid, and crying roamed the world yelling out for the dragon. Where had it gone? Why did it leave her behind?

How was she supposed to survive alone?

Terrified the child moved through Fiore's lands alone, tired and hungry until she crossed paths with someone; Would he be a friend? Or would he be a villain? Or perhaps someone new the girl could yet again learn to depend on? Would she ever find a family the same way she had found with Grandine?

       A Character & Relationship Analysis

As I assume we all know, Mystogan is revealed to be at some point Jellal from Edolas.

Only there he is a prince. The prince to a world he no longer wishes to . Therefore, all alone against his father's wishes, beliefs, and knowledge, he sets himself on a journey to save the world at a very young age all by himself. A child. Alone.

In a world unknown to him. With people twice his size and twice, if not more, than his own magical power and yet for the sake of his world and Earth he pushes himself forward everyday on his journey, searching endlessly for a way to save both worlds all by himself. Not to mention the fact that on top of such a responsibility, he also had to hide his identity to avoid further complications after figuring out that Earth was world mirroring of Edolas.

Then we have Wendy: a child even younger than Mystogan when he first got on earth traveling through a world ten times bigger and scarier than her as well. Her only parental figure gone without a trace, abandonment wounds all over her small fragile heart as she roams around searching for her next family, her next safe place unaware and afraid if she'll even find one. Of course, that is until Mystogan and her cross paths. Two sides of the same coin; that's what makes their relationship so heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.

At the time of their encounter, Jellal of Edolas was struggling to look after himself in a world where not only did he know anything about but also had to hide his identity and existence from. With an incredible weight of saving one world from destructing another, I'm willing to bet he traveled through earth with a lot of solitude, fear, and anxiety.

And then, one day, his paths cross with Wendy. A child from earth; stranded, lost, and alone all by herself. As if Earth itself had sent him a mirror of his own fears and anxieties for him to defeat and fight against. There's something humans that'll always make us instantly act tougher and wiser in front of those younger than us even if we ourselves are on the verge of crumbling in front of the world's cruelty and loneliness. That's exactly what Wendy becomes for Mystogan. A strength. A reason for him to hold himself together. A reason for him to fight harder to save earth. The two naturally become each other's family as they travel through earth in search of a new place for Wendy to call home.

He becomes the first human to show Wendy kindness in the world other than Grandine. He protects her, feeds her, and makes sure she sleeps well even if he himself had so much to deal with without complaining about once. Becoming Wendy's first real and true bond with a human since Grandine had left her. Their bond is deeper; They become as close as brother and sister just like that.

And then that bond breaks apart when Wendy gets taken and left upon the door of Cait Shelter because of course; Jellal cannot both save the world and take care of a child even though it is obvious he does not like having to leave her alone the way he did. And yet, regardless of the pain; Wendy goes on to live despite the pain. She mixes in amongst the people of Cait Shelter, creating a happy life for herself until she finally goes on her mission along with the other guilds against Oracion Seis.

The Importance & Impact

               of Their Relationship on Wendy

Unlike other characters in Fairy Tail besides Gray; Wendy also has lost her family twice. First, she lost Grandine, and second, she was abandoned by Mystogan. Although seemingly insignificant to her character development at first glance, these experiences with abandonment had a very strong impact on Wendy's character. You can see it throughout the Oracion Seis Arc, where she refuses to let Jellal remain unconscious despite being told he is an enemy of the guilds she is working with.

To her, he is family. A savior who gave her a new family after Grandine's sudden departure took away her old one. It was thanks to Jellal from Edolas that she and Carla even met. It was thanks to him that she at least had a friend to watch her back when he was no longer around her. You see it when she learns the sky dragon roar on the spot in order to save her new family; Cait Shelter. Later on, you even see it when she unlocks her Dragon Force form in order to save Carla. Her experiences with abandonment make her fight stronger. Harder. In order to protect them and herself from the pain of losing her family again. Just like she became Jellal or Mystogan's strength to move forward on a very lonely and scary journey; The possibility of her losing everything again makes Wendy fight stronger for the future she desires. The two truly have a very beautiful impact on one another, and honestly, their relationship dynamic is definitely not spoken enough. Two children on missions to protect what is dear to them. One protects two worlds from destruction, and the other protects her family from slipping away from her ever again.

In the end, I truly love the way Mashima wrote the background story between these two.

After Gray's backstory, it truly has become one of my favorite character backstories to dive into, analyze, and speak about. These two are the perfect examples of just how strong love and can make us become even if the world is big and scary; When met by the right people they become our strength to fight for a better tomorrow.
