Hihi my guys, girlies and non binary friends! It’s Trixie here, finally blogging again after taking FOREVER off, very very sorry :pensive: college and One Piece are genuinely killing me rn, but I’m on a break right now so I might as well do something productive! Today I’m going to be blogging for my group, Venus Pixies, national woman’s month collab, since we’re named after the planet of women it’s only appropriate <3

The theme I’ve decided to go with is Underrated Female Characters! In this blog today I’m going to be analysing my personal favourite underrated woman, Evergreen! Because she really doesn’t get enough love within the fan base and especially in the anime.

Who is Evergreen?

Evergreen can be seen to be quite snooty and often vain at the start of the anime but as it progresses she is shown to be someone who cares deeply for her teammates. Evergreen possesses Fairy magic, where she can summon pieces of matter control it to fire it at whomever she is fighting against. As for her secret eye magic she has the ability to glance into peoples eyes and turn them into stone statues when she removes her glasses, however when Evergreen is defeated in battle the people do turn back from stone.

Like many other female characters in the series, she is seen to have a love interest, this being Elfman. However, on the contrary to many other relationships in the series their relationship goes beyond flirting and fan-service as we get to see a more developed relationship between them, they go on dates together and show moments of tenderness and care to one an other, even if Evergreen is totally in denial about this in front of others.

The Thunder Legion also known as the Rajinshu or Thunder God Tribe is a team inside of the Fairy Tail guild consisting of Laxus Dreyar, Freed Justine, Bixlow and Evergreen. Their overall main purpose is to help out extremely strong S class wizard Laxus and act as a form of his defence. Whenever we see Evergreen in the series she is more than likely with these three men, these are her best friends whom she has formed an extremely close bond with, despite her harsh exterior.

My Top 2 Evergreen moments

One of the first instances where we see Evergreen is during the Battle of Fairy Tail arc. In summary this arc is a major one for Evergreen, we see the Thunder Legion fight in a game against the other of Fairy Tail where the main objective is to defeat everyone and make Laxus the guild master. This is a really unique arc as the “villains” are in fact of the guild instead of the ones attacking being from a different organisation.

As for Evergreen during this arc, it is the first one she is present in so it’s really where we form our first impression on her and one of the way’s she is first presented to us is in combat with Elfman. All throughout this fight Evegreen is cocky, cocky, cocky, constantly boasting about her strength and beauty. The fight is rather short and we really get to see Evergreen’s power. At the start of the fight we are inclined to believe that Evergreen is toast once Elfman shuts his eyes to become immune to her Stone Eyes attack, but even though this should be seen as a major threat to her she keeps her arrogant attitude and proceeds to still attack him. She uses her other ability of Fairy Magic to fight to relentlessly attack him even after he turns into his Beast Soul Takeover form he still is overwhelmed by an onslaught of Fairy Bombs and he eventually was surrounded by Evergreen’s Fairy Dust, proving that his senses aren’t that good. Once Evergreen delivers her final blow, Elfman is left defenceless, his blindfold coming off leaving him susceptible to her cursed ability. The battle finally ends when Evergreen, declares her love for stone statues and then solidifies Elfman.

I really enjoy this scene for Evergreen because it really sets the bar for her character. Right off the bat we can see her personality shine through and unlike the other three in the Thunder Legion hers doesn’t really undergo a drastic change whatsoever,  although she may soften up slightly we still see her be predominantly quite rude and arrogant, so this fight really does tell us a lot about her character for the long term. Another reason why I enjoy this is because it shows she isn’t just a “one trick pony”, prior to this we only really get to see her medusa like ability of turning people into stone, which is extremely powerful and very useful, especially in a hostage situation. However, with this fight we get to see how she utilities both her Fairy Magic and her cursed eye magic together to overwhelm Elfman completely despite him transforming into his powerful, and fearsome takeover form.

Now this next moment may come as a bit of a shock since it isn’t really anything all that major, but I think a great moment for Evergreen was during and after Elfman’s fight in the Grand Magic Games arc. GMG, is an arc where different guilds are matched against each other in a series of events, predominantly fighting, and the guild whom wins the most points will emerge the victor. This takes place shortly after the 7 year timeskip, where Fairy Tail had really taken a dive, due to the strongest going missing. Therefore the Grand Magic Games is a great way for them to boost their reputation up again, however when Wendy is attacked by a member of Raven Tail Elfman is next in line to take her place. Prior to Elfman’s fight Fairy Tail team A hadn’t won any battles and were living up to their expectations of being completely useless. Furthermore, more anxiety was caused for the already struggling Fairy Tail when Bacchus, the powerhouse of Quarto Cerberus, was wrongly matched with Elfman instead of Erza.

During this fight is where I really ire Evergreen, although she isn’t really involved in the fight we can certainly see her comion shine through. Morale is generally quite low for this fight, especially within the crowd, however despite this Evergreen is not taking to the negative energy. She is seen cheering him on quite vigorously throughout the fight, really contradicting her usual personality. This is sort of like one of those moments where you see the big tough guy or more appropriately the perfectionist queen on Drag Race shed a rare moment of vulnerability. Typically, she would never really show affection towards Elfman in the public view, even though he is her romantic interest, but here we see her truly let go and not really care about what others think.

Similarly, after Elfman emerges victorious from his battle Evergreen goes to visit him in the infirmary. Here we see a lot more of a caring side to her, showing genuine comfort towards him. This scene although it isn’t major, definitely shows some character development for her. Even though she is mostly a stone cold bitch, we can certainly see that she is capable of showing comion towards those she cares genuinely about.

Why do I like her personally?

Although I don’t think she’s comparable with the queen of all the mean girls Regina George I definitely feel she would give her sidekick Gretchen Wieners a run for her money. (If you don’t know who either of them are or you didn’t wear pink today then you can’t sit with us :kissing_heart: ). Evergreen is an unapologetic diva, she is extremely headstrong and likes to get what she wants not really being one for compromises. These kind of characters are undoubtedly some of my all time favourites within all types of media, these apex predator types are so entertaining to watch. Even though she isn’t the queen bee of the guild, she certainly has the mindset for this and I absolutely adore seeing her squabble with Erza over who the true fairy queen is. Please Mashima I have to see Evergreen leak some deep secret or spread some ludicrous rumour about her, I am THRISTY for this kind of mean girls esque revenge plot.

Another reason why I love her is because she is apart of my favourite group in the whole anime, the Thunder Legion. The groups dynamic really makes it for me, I enjoy to envision it as: Laxus the grouchy father, Freed the doting mother, Bixlow the gothic punk teenage son and Evergreen the bitchy teenage daughter. These four characters all coming together to form a strong bond that can be seen as a weird family definitely makes their interactions all the more enjoyable for me and it’s a joy to see them all goof around together. Now if only we got their backstories :pensive: ...
