Fallout 4 was the first Fallout game to officially introduce settlement building, and with it came a variety of places that many players have turned into their personal home.
Now, why would the player carve themselves a home if they're away all the time? The most simple answer is comfort. The world of Fallout is harsh and fraught with difficulty, but with a nice place to call home, it's worth it.

Hangman’s alley
The Mechanist's Lair
i'd like to state for the record that i like sanctuary because sturges is there
I didn't play Fallout 4.
Hangman's Alley is a pretty nice place and spacious for how small it is cause there's access to a few multi story buildings
I also like how close it is to Diamond City which helps a lot during survival
