Carter grew up in downtown Featherlite, his family was a fairly normal shifter family, a lion shifter father who worked at the docks and his mother a tiger shifter worked as a kindergarten teacher. He grew up with two younger siblings, Susan and Gregory whom he adored and still is in with to this day.

when Carter was 15 he was home alone, his younger siblings staying at different friend’s places when a social worker knocked on the door, informing him of his parent’s deaths, they’d been returning home after dropping off his sister at her friend’s place when a drunk driver ran them off the road and into the ocean where they were found, but the paramedics couldn’t save them. The social worker took Carter with him to gather his younger siblings. Since they were all so close he tried to keep them together as they were placed into the foster system.

Carter was there for 3 years, getting a job as soon as he could and saved up for an apartment before legally adopting his siblings out of the system. Now his sister was 17 and their younger brother 15 so they were mostly self sufficient as long as Carter brought in food and paid the bills as well as clothes and school supplies to give them as normal a life as he could for his siblings. He began to take drumming lessons, Susan taking a job to help her older brother with paying the bills and putting herself and Greg through school
