Fishing New Year's Resolutions I Have Done in 2021 and 6 More New Ones

It's 2022 everyone: we have all made it. And I did quite a few of the resolutions in my last New Year's post. I wish you all a happy new year and today I will share the resolutions I have kept and new ones for the next year

Resolution: Catch a Pike

In October I caught my first pike, which was something I hoped to do last year. It was released, and was around 2 feet in length

Resolution Catch a Bigger Bass

I caught a bass that I think is bigger than my PB. It isnt 5 pounds but that would be odd for the lake I fish. But it's huge for the lake

Resolution: Eat some Fish (Panfish)

This year I have caught and cooked a lot of panfish. Those are 2 large bluegills I fried in cracker crumbs and other ingredients.

Catch a Jig Bass

That's technically a bass caught with a crappie jig, but still a jig, so it counts.

7 More Resolutions for 2022

#1. Fish I want to Catch Next Year

I did not want this to clog my resolutions. This year I hope to catch my first:

Flathead Catfish

Walleye

Common Carp

Gar

Muskellunge

Brown trout

#2. Catch a Bigger Pike

This year I caught 3 pike, including my first in October. Fall seems to be my lucky month. But my first was 24 inches and the other 2 were ittedly dinks not worth mentioning. Next year I want to catch a bigger pike, hopefully a trophy.

#3. Try New Recipes Outside Simple Frying

This year I ate fish, but they were just fried with something like Louisiana Fish Fry. I do want to do more than just frying, and try some new recipes. I found some from Kevin Belton and Hank Shaw, that I definitely want to try.

#3. Get Better with Fly Fishing. Catch Trout and Maybe Pike

This year I dabbled with fly fishing and even caught some panfish. This year I want to get even better and hit up the trout streams and maybe catch pike. But that would take a heavier outfit.

#4. Try Ice Fishing

This is reliant on the weather, but this year I want to try to learn how to ice fish. I have ice rods, ice lures, an augur, and other equipment including tip offs. This year I hope to get the chance to ice fish for perch, pike, and walleye. Hopefully, this happens soon weather permit.

#5. Learn How to Use a Cast Net

I have never tried using a cast net nor do I have one. But this year I hope to learn how to, so I don't have to buy minnows. It seems to have a learning curve but hopefully I can begin this year,

#6. Try Night Fishing

I have tried night fishing, but not really. I have fished while it was dark but not for long (until I get a bullhead to clean) and I am out before 8 PM comes along. This year I want to night fish for catfish and walleye until the wee hours of the night.

#7. Stop putting it off and Tie Some Flies

This was one for last year. But I didn't do it, not only did I lack a lot of materials but I just put it off for other reasons and getting distracted. This year I hope to tie some flies and to stop putting it off.
