A day in June

I know it's not June anymore. This drawing is just set in the month of June. I'm not waiting eleven months just to post this in the appropriate month, and who cares about real time Vs what time a story is set anyway?

I drew this because I like drawing sad things. There's nothing wrong with me, apart from the fact that my 3DS broke. It still works, but the area around the right button fell apart, similar to my old DS - which also still works - but I started this drawing before that happend anyway and my 3DS was fixed soon after it broke.

Well, I started drawing this on father's Day, because I saw the opportunity to draw something sad regarding my saddest character: Phone Krasnyy Guy. He visits his father's grave each year on the anniversary of his father's death - on the 13th of June - and on father's Day - which always falls after that date in June. I also did a bit of research into Russian flower language, and found that even numbers of flowers are reserved for funerals and dead people, so I tried to have the bouquet in Krasnyy's hand as having an even number of stems visible.

I also included Shadow Freddy just because I wanted to draw this duo again and don't really draw much of Shadow Freddy.

If you look at the gravestones, you will see the names of some of the other dead characters from my AU as well as Shadow Freddy's real name (from my AU of course). From this, you can actually see that Ina is older than Philip by just a little bit. You can also see that in my AU in the Chicago location specifically the crying child and older brother were twins, which is actually a big deal in the story.

Also, it's not everyday that I draw characters not facing the 'camera' so to speak. I guess it gives a better view of the fact that Krasnyy's hair is in a ponytail.

Also, long story short, this drawing took ages, and it only took ages because of drawing the grass. I really need to find a better way of drawing grass in large amounts that is applicable to traditional artists that use pens and colouring pencils, so if anyone knows a good way to draw grass, feel free to leave a comment with your advice.

Sketch. Photo taken on holiday before my 3DS broke.

Linework Inked. Taken several weeks after I got home off my holiday as grass takes forever to draw.

Colouring and shading started. I personally feel better doing both at the same time, so prepare to see more half coloured and shaded progress shots in future.
