After finally getting to watch The Five Nights at Freddy's Movie, I can finally write a review about it.

The movie starts out with perhaps the most badass intro I have ever seen. I can confidently say that even if you're new to FNAF in general, the movie tries to sum it up to you. Because really, with nearly 10 years worth of lore and time lines, you'd need a full-blown series.

What I really like about this film is that it gave us a new plot instead of recycling something from the games or books, although I could definitely see some Silver Eyes influence in there. Not to mention we now have a "movie time line", because certain details from the games and books have been changed up.

For example, Mike Schmidt has a little sister named Abby, whereas in the games, she's never mentioned (unless you want to say it's Michael Afton and his little sister Elizabeth). Since Mike and William aren't related in the movie universe, there's more to draw on here as well.

Then there's Officer Vanessa. She is definitely not the Vanny we know from the game franchise. Even more...it is revealed that she's William's daughter. So knowing that this is a separate universe, this possibly means that the events from FNAF 4 and Sister Location never happened. Which means Elizabeth doesn't exist in this time line.

There are also certain nods toward The Silver Eyes, especially towards the end of the film. William Afton's defeat in the movie vaguely mirror his death in the book. In both instances, the spring locks stab through his body and the animatronics drag him away. There's also Easter eggs littered throughout the film, like Chica's Magic Rainbow and Sparky the Dog, as well as two special cameo appearances made by Matthew Patrick and Cory Kenshin.

If you're coming to this film hoping for some blood, gore, and a mind-blowing story line with a plot twist, you'll be sorely disappointed as a critic. But if you're a die-hard FNAF fan who loves the franchise and wants a cool, funny and chilling adventure, then this is the movie for you.

From my personal experience, I loved the movie. It wasn't perfect, and I understood it was Scott Cawthon's first time being involved in something as big as Hollywood. Writing a game or a book isn't the same thing as writing a screenplay. But it doesn't mean this movie was a dumpster fire, either. There were so many enjoyable moments in the film that I adore, and there's plenty of opportunity for sequels. I believe after this experience, Scott has learned how to make a movie. It's not easy, but given the right time, acting, and writing, you can truly cook up something great.

I really loved the parts involving Abby and the animatronics. It was so heart-warming to see them interact tenderly towards a child. The Jim Henson Creature Shop did a PHENOMENAL job on the animatronics.

So, critics, you're right in some way. It could've been better. But it also could've been worse. If Scott wasn't involved in this, it would've been hot trash. But don't heavily critique something that us fans have been looking forward to for 8 years.
