🪶 Nori the Hawk

So I have a FNaF OC!! I know I have a wiki for her on my profile but I genuinely haven’t even looked at it in years, so this fact is surprising to me. Nori’s been super dormant because I stopped being happy with her design but didn’t have the desire to fix it. I went into this collab thinking I’d just redraw her for old time’s sake but with such a massive time gap between now and the last time I drew her, it was impossible not to change the design just because of how much my art has improved.

I made Nori 8ish years ago when I was 13. I had only been drawing for a year at that point and god does it show in the original refs I made of her. I maintained her for a couple years after that but then I moved on to making OCs for other fandoms and such. She turned into my fursona for a while and that’s another design I’m unhappy with now, but that’s a whole can of worms I don’t need to open in this post. Point is it’s a shame I let her rot as long as I did and I’m happy I found the will to revive her.

I’m very happy with how this piece turned out. I’ve been putting a lot of effort into rendering when I have opportunities to. I don’t draw often so I make it count when I do, and I like to think I improve a lot between finished pieces. My biggest battle has been just allowing myself to use extremely dark and light colors. It’s hard to get out of the mid tones because they feel safer, but the end result is always so flat without the contrast the extremes give. I feel like I did a good job pushing myself on this here.

I like the feather pattern on the head, that's a nice touch.

If you struggle with darker/lighter colors, consider using less the dark/light slider and more the contrast one. What I mean is that to make shadows and highlights notably, it's usually better to not just make your original color darker or lighter (or worse, painting white/black on top of the canva), but make your shadows just a more saturated version of your base color, and less saturated for highlights. It makes it more vibrant because the colors are still there and still like vibrant idk if I make myself clear. I personally make a mix of both saturation and brightness, for exemples when doing shadows I usully slide the contrast to 60/70 and darkness by 20/25 (idk if it's percentage, it's just what's written on Autodesk), I think it makes for a much softer shadow that I think looks nice in my last few drawings.
