Like alot of you I myself have a very long list of films that i'm yet to see but still want to and while alot of those films have been forgotten about one way or another. The film i'm about to talk to you about today is a film that was so hard to place for many years and after a good few years of searching for what this film was even called as all I had to go of off was my very bad memory of The Mask VHS tape and the trailers that played before for it and until just a few short days ago I couldn't even name the film that i'm about to talk to you about today and so then me as I review the film follows the nineties family comedy tradition of having a hair animal in the lead role with the film in question being called simply just "Monkey Trouble" enjoy.
The plot of the film is when a nine year girl secretly hides a monkey in her bedroom she discovers that there's far more to this monkey then meets the eye. Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us n this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty the typical kids family film affair plot and really nothing all the more then that as while the films plot is new and interesting it's still not that good of a film as the films plot is very badly written with the plot of film being at best very thin and just plain old bad at it's very worst with the plot of the film just coming and going as and when it pleases with the main plot of the film not even showing up until around the forty five minuet mark with the plot of the film being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Thora Birch as Eva Gregory , Mimi Rogers as Amy Gregory and Adrian and Julian Johnson as Jack Gregory. Also starring in this film is Christopher McDonald as Tom Gregory , Harvey Keitel as Azro , Alison Elliott as Tessa , Remy Ryan as Katie , Jo Champa as Annie , Deborah White as Missy , Adam LaVorgna as Mark , Robert Miranda as Drake , Victor Argo as Charlie , Kevin Scannell as Peter Boylan and Frank Welker as The Voice Of Dodger.
Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / [resented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad for a kids family comedy film. As those kids of films don't usually command great acting from any involved with the cast and yet we get good acting from alot of this films cast which is something that's not really all that new given who is starring in this film with Frank Welker being the true standout performer as even tho all he's doing is his Abu voice from Aladdin it is still something that works well enough for this film that you really do kind of forgive it with young star Thora Birch also giving us a truly really good performance as well with the acting that's really in this film not really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so bad as it gives none of the films actors absolutely nothing to work with in of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does affect the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

To be frank while this films main villain is serviceable for the type of film that this is he's not really that threatening of a villain. With him barely showing up in the film and when he does show up he barely interacts with any of the films main cast until the films third act and while he does look scary he doesn't act like a villain as all he does is spend the overall vast majority of the films running time looking for a lost monkey and trying to make sure that of the mafia don't hurt him and that's it and those aren't things that make him a good villain as all it does is make him seem like a caring person and it's only when the film gets into it's third act that he starts to act more like a villain by which point it's to little to late and feels rather inconsistent with how the character has been written like for the rest of the film with the better candidate for villains being the mafia as they are the ones that could actively harm our lead characters and could actually like villains for the whole entire film unlike the films actual villain who only acts like a villain when the plot demands that he do so and that's really it and that's not enough to make a good or even consistent villain.

One of the key things that was needed to make this film work is also one of the things that doesn't really work. As the family dynamic is all off this is due to the fact that the family don't get alot of screen time and when they are on screen there not on screen for very long this is something that makes it hard to work what the family dynamic is like for these characters and it's something that was needed to make this film work as while we do get an understanding of why Eva doesn't like her baby brother we don't really get to see these characters work together willingly and we don't get to see the family characters develop as characters and as a result of that is the fact that they feel like carboard cutouts of characters instead of being fully fledged characters with someone them like Eva's sister for example not even having a personality let alone enough screen time to have more then a few lines of dialog and as a result of this is the fact that the whole family dynamic just feels of somehow with it not working in of context of the film.
One of the things that does really work is oddly enough the relationship between Eva and her monkey Dodger. As we get to see there relationship go from being strangers to being friends to being family all over the course of the film with there relationship being one of the few things that really is needed to make the film as because if you don't buy there releationship then the whole film just falls apart and thankfully the makers of this film fully understood that as great care is given to make there relationship feel real and that is something that really does come across in alot of there scenes together which does make it all the more heartbreaking when they are forced to be apart together and all the more happy when the film goes the typical family comedy route by having them reunite at the end but at the same time tho it would have helped the film if the film showed us what the monkey's relationship was like with his owner so that we the audience could see if he was treated nicely or not and if he wasn't then we can see that he was truly happy with Eva and as a result of that is the fact that it would have the add on affect of making Azro this films villain and actually scary and creepy villain.

Thankfully while Eva isn't made out to be an annoying kid character she is instead made out to be something that's just as bad and that's unlikable, This is because her character for the overall vast majority of the films running time is just plain old unlikable as she lies to her parents alot of the time , she openly its to not liking her new baby brother and straight up doesn't like her step dad all because he won't get her a pet due to the fact that he has allergies and that's it and yet somehow she's made out to be the good guy when she should be the bad guy and in a good film she would have been a bad guy type of character this wouldn't be a problem if she had an arc where she learned not to lie to anyone with the film openly showing how her lying affects those around her which in all fairness the film does try to do something like that it comes across as being hollow as she gets what she wants because of the fact that she lied when it would have been more effective if she didn't get a pet by the end of the film but learned to just be happy with what she had anyways which would have made the film alot more effective and it would have told the films young audience that sometimes you don't get what you want but that's OK because all you have to do is just look at what you do have and that is more effective then what the films actual ending really is.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty six minuets and eight seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time that a film like this one would have but at the same time tho this film really doesn't have alot there in of plot to really cover that large amount of running time either as at most the film has the amount of plot to cover at best thirty maybe even forty five minuets with more then half of this films running time being dedicated to scenes that don't add anything to the actual plot of the film and just feel like padding that's there just for the sake of being there when that time could have bee used to developing the films plot or even to dedicating the films characters but it's there just to show the main character being an unlikable character by lying to those around her and that's really it and those are scenes that are better left on the cutting room floor as we don't need to see more of this character being an unlikable character but I really will it that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho tho.

So now then as this is a comedy film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time tho the comedy in this film wasn't all that good either. As the comedy in this film is the kind of jokes that you would only find funny if you were a little kid and there the types of jokes that would work only in a family friendly comedy film and not because there actually funny jokes and while yes Thora Birch does get to have some pretty funny moments in this film those are very few and far between the film instead giving her more bad jokes to tell then giving her some actually funny jokes to tell and even the great Christopher McDonald who can usually get a laugh out of a bad joke here just isn't given anything all that funny to say or even do in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film had alot of potential to be a really good family friendly comedy but like alot of all of the other family friendly that got released in the nineties this film just can't live up to that potential because of the fact that the films script by the film co-writer and director Franco Amurri and writer Stu Krieger simply just won't allow for that to happen in the first place in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in thanks very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being the really great Google Images this is because really all of the images that I really got and used from Google Images are all really high quality with all the images that are currently up and on the great Google Images are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
