Welcome back to another episode of 1.9 Demon Review, where I take you on a nostalgia trip and showcase famous demons I’ve completely forgotten about for years ... and beat them too!

Whenever I’m just reviewing a single level like in this post, I will be ranking difficulty and enjoyment of each part. You’ve seen this method many times before. (Keep in mind the difficulty scale is relative to the parts in THIS LEVEL, not absolute difficulty across all demons.)

While they take me a while to finish, I’m beginning to enjoy making custom thumbnails! I’m still starting out so please offer any suggestions you might have :)

Also, I probably won’t review demons I’ve already beaten in the past because I need a challenge ;)

And I’m still procrastinating on Tempest, shit .___.

Sumsar - The Creator

Sumsar is a name that many of you will recognize as he was a well known creator in 1.9 and early-mid 2.0. He first gained his fame in the early updates making v2 remakes of Robtop’s levels, which was a popular road to success in the early days of GD.

*cough cough foreshadowing cough*

Throughout 2.0 and some of 2.1, Sumsar turned his focus to creating interesting minigames and game recreations. For example, his three most recent rated levels are Slither io, Pong, and Pac Man. So yeah, he’s moved on from typical start to finish levels.

Fresh into the update, his first 1.9 level, named after the song, set the stage for the update by using a familiar song we’ve grown to love and a great style to match it.

Music

Chaoz Airflow by ParagonX9

When adding custom soundtracks became possible in 1.9 with Newgrounds , Chaoz Airflow was introduced very early into the GD music scene. It quickly became a popular and recognizable song, as it should cause it’s a total banger. A quiet start transitions to an action-packed drop. It’s a very fitting song for GD and Sumsar does a wonderful job with the sync, which makes it much more memorable for me. These early songs still stay with me today.

Chaoz Airflow - The Level

It’s actually free. 3 star gameplay right here. It’s very light on deco but it helps to ease the player in.

Difficulty - 0.5/5

Enjoyment - 2.5/5

21-28%

This is where the level basically starts. It throws you into a ship with some invisible saws and it might seem tight at first, though after a little practice it’s very doable. This part has better block design that the first one but it’s still basic.

Difficulty - 2/5

Enjoyment - 3/5

29-35%

This ball part is very short, but there are a lot of invisible objects here. (that’s going to be a trend throughout this level) Some timings are a bit tricky, and takes some getting used to, but it’s not bad. The gameplay here is really fun once you get it down.

36-42%

Here we have on average the hardest part of the level: this mirrored wave is littered with invisible saws and tight spaces the entire time. This part is what got me to use a copyable. It’s tough to practice and find the right set of inputs, but it’s easy to memorize once you get it. Play it enough times, and the fun will eventually come out, I promise.

43-49%

A short and sweet ufo that’s surrounded by, you guessed it, invisible saws. These ones are easier to avoid though. The background (which uses faded blocks, there were no layers then) is a nice touch and the colors match well, including the sick color flash at 49%. A pretty fun transition part into the second drop.

50-58%

This dual ship is the second most annoying section in my opinion. The spaces are tight and the timing is just awkward. Even though it’s really short, this gave me hell in practice mode, but out of frustration rather than only difficulty. You can’t see during the mirror animation, so your only way to reliably start the first hold is just learning the right amount of delay time. And it’s not a clean hold, so you need to play around with lightly tapping at the top so you don’t go too low or too high. Thankfully, the single ship right after is much easier, which raises its enjoyment score by like 0.5. Just be careful of the transition from dual to single.

59-66%

I find this one of the most fun parts of the entire level. It’s fast-paced and despite the invisible blocks, the music notes make it easy to tell where to go. The pulsing orbs inside the blocks add for an interesting effect as well. I just love this part for its epic music, consistency, and great sync. Watch out for the very short spam bit!

67-73%

Here’s another really exciting and enjoyable part. The sync is this part feels perfect and the high notes add extra tension. The spaces here are real small, even for a mini ufo. The very first time my younger noob self saw this level I thought it was near impossible. (lmao) But it’s not all that hard, and there’s no invisible shit! :D Make sure you really practice the inputs for this one, and they’re quick. Any late press won’t give you a good angle between the saw triangle or right after the last gravity portal. I died in this part a few times, but I wasn’t at all mad, cause it’s seriously fun!

74-81%

A wave part that doesn’t have too much to stand out from the rest. The sync is really good but the block deco is similar to other parts and it uses pink as the main color like the last couple sections. But the use of mini wave changes the gameplay just enough to be interesting to the player as they prepare for the final part. The spam is really wide too, no inconsistency here. Overall, not bad.

82-90%

Another pink section in a row, damn. Here we’ve got some more INVISIBLE shit, but now in the form of inconsistent memorization. I got annoyed real quick practicing this. This is by far the most irritating section in the entire level. Luckily I only died here like twice in normal mode but the rest of the level is so good I didn’t mind too much.

91-100% (Almost Done With This Dumb Post)

The final stretch. A free ball part followed by a tricky mini ship curve. You will die if you’re not careful. The block pulse effect at the end is pretty cool too.
