My Halloween Icon Contest Entry

It’s the moment that none of you have been waiting for which is my #Iconoween entry. Get ready because it’s so bad it’ll softlock GD if it ever actually becomes an icon ingame. Here it is everyone, my horrible icon!

If you couldn’t already tell, this is a spider icon.

Inspiration

There wasn’t much inspiration in this icon. I just tried drawing a black widow making sure it looked like a GD icon.

Materials Used

First off let’s talk about how I drew the icon. There’s really nothing exciting here as all I did was used this pencil pretty much.

Now it’s time for the colors on the icon itself. I used three colored pencils being red, black, and gray.

I know that each icon in GD is limited to only two colors of your choice. So how come I used three colors? Well, it’s quite obvious actually. Some icons like this one have a cool shading effect on some parts.

That’s why I used the gray to try to add some shading to the back and head of the spider as well as its legs. It didn’t work out too well.

I tried giving this icon a glow effect to it. I just used a red marker so that’s nothing special.

Design Choices

Here’s a picture of the spider before I colored it. I decided to add the extra eye on the edge of the colored spider later, but everything else is the exact same without color.

What I did was first draw multiple circles indicating eyes. What I did next was add circles into the eyes to indicate a shine like on all spider eyes in GD.

For the legs I feel as if they’d look a bit like the default spider legs only that they’re more tall, skinny, and pointy on the bottom. This way it’d have its unique set of legs as some spiders do share leg textures like the 300 coins spider, the 65 lava shard spider, and the 8,000 stars spider.

Since the spider was inspired by a black widow, I tried making a red hour glass in the middle. Of course the colors would change based off the player’s choice, but it does look pretty good.

I expected the head to be a lot smaller, but the placement of the eyes forced me to draw a long ovular head instead of a small circular head. Definitely something I’d want to change. There’s also fangs which aren’t on real black widows, but I thought it was a **** touch. ( Don’t ask why that word was covered in asterisks. )

Unlocking Criteria

This is a very tough decision. The icon doesn’t look too intricate nor lacking in detail, so I don’t know any actual ways to unlock it. Instead, I’m taking the easy way out. You’d have to play the game in October where Robtop would hopefully have an update ready for every year which would change some of the art such as the menu and online buttons. During this time there could also be exclusive icons to unlock in the shop. Maybe The Shopkeeper and Scratch as well as the vault keepers could wear some kind of costume. Anyways, there’d be a couple of icons that’d say limited time to buy for Halloween. The black widow icon could be one of them. I don’t know if this is too expensive or not, but I think it should be priced at around 4,000 orbs. Let me know if this is too cheap or expensive. Also, here’s some pointless fan art of mana orbs.

Im case none of you are skeptical as to whether or not I made this, here’s my hand to prove it’s mine.

That’s all for this post or what most call filler. GDA Halloween has been started, but it’s not even close to being finished. I have most of the characters planned out. I’ve probably talked to you whether or not you’re going to be in it, and if I haven’t, that’s only because I have an ideas as to what your role and costume are going to be. There’s also going to be two characters that aren’t GDA . One of them is actually a member from another Amino, but you just have to wait and see for that one. Bye for now I guess.
