Kolten Wong Announces Retirement

Veteran infielder Kolten Wong announced his retirement today at the age of 34, as he confirmed while at his alma mater of the University of Hawaii to throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Drafted 22nd overall by the Cardinals in 2011, Wong made his MLB debut two years later and quickly took over as the franchise's starting second baseman for the rest of the decade, earning a 3rd place finish in the 2014 NL Rookie of the Year voting and winning two Gold Glove Awards in 2019-20 thanks to his stellar defense. He later went on to have runs with the Brewers (2021-22), Mariners (2023), and Dodgers (2023), but did not appear in the Majors at all last year. He retires with a career 22.9 bWAR, 973 hits, and a .256/.330/.390 slash line in 1,189 games across 11 seasons.
