Hello, my guys, gals and non-binary pals!

Today I’ll be combing two of my favorite things - musicals and Riordan books - for my submission to the #MusicalEdits challenge! This piece is a tribute to Jason Grace, because no, I am not over his death, thank you for asking.

If you’ve ever spoken with me for longer than five minutes, you know that I love Les Mis. (Like, an irrational, ungodly amount.) And I’ve found that pretty much every moment in a Riordan book can be summed up in a song from the musical. (I may or may not be working on a playlist based on this concept.)

During one of my many re-reads of Tyrant’s Tomb, I was noticed how similar Apollo’s “Ballad of Jason Grace” is to Empty Chairs at Empty Tables. (I guess there’s only so many songs about untimely heroic sacrifice in the world.) And Jason’s death, like the deaths of most of Les Amis, could have been easily prevented, had he not been so willing to charge nobly into battle to defend what he believed in. (Curse those tragic heroes!)

Anyway, there’s one more reason that this song is just like Jason’s death: they both make me cry. A lot.
