Joseph Warren was a smart man, and he could usually find his way out of a predicament within a few short moments; he could not however, find a way out of getting pinned to the ground by a British soldier.

He had just been taking a walk, wanting to clear his head from the stuffy camp. Foolishly, he had left both his gun and sword back at camp, figuring that they wouldn’t be necessary. It had actually been going quite well too, and he had been feeling much more refreshed and ready to head back, when the sound of a gun had suddenly broke the peaceful silence.

He hadn’t at first ed what was happening, taken so off-guard that he didn’t even notice the bullet hole that was now in his shoulder, but that moment had ended all to fast and he very quickly became aware the searing pain taking over the whole of his left arm. Then, before he had even had the chance to grip his wounded limb, he had been pinned to the ground by a man dressed in an all to familiar red uniform.

Which led him to where he was now.

The redcoat sneered down at him, seeming to enjoy having him pinned to the ground like helpless prey. He felt like helpless prey, especially when the man’s boot moved up to his neck, making it near impossible to breath. He tried to pry it away from him, but with one arm nearly unusable at the moment, he did little to nothing in succeeding.

“Look at this boys, we’ve found ourselves a lost patriot.” The man that had him pinned said, his laughter quickly followed by the others in the group. The redcoat then looked directly at him, a savage delight glinting in his eyes.

“You’ve dedicated your life to a mistake, my friend.” The man spoke with a causal tone, as if he wasn’t practically choking out who he was talking to.

“A most pointless, stupid dream that will eventually become nothing more then a fable told as a bedtime story.” He paused for second, before continuing, “Let us start it’s destruction with you.” After that the redcoat removed his foot, and Joseph wasted no time in trying to regain the air he had been starved of. His relief was short lived however, when a gun was pointed at him in place of the boot.

For just a split second, Joseph was certain that he was going to die. That he would die in the forest, surrounded by redcoats, his body being found by some random patrol. His children would receive the news of his death alone, no mother there to comfort them or share their grief, and all to soon he would be forgotten, future generations never once hearing a mere whisper of his name. Yet, in just that one second, he seemed to gain an almost desperate survival instinct, and soon he was kicking the redcoat aiming the gun at him, hitting the man right in the knee.

He let himself have a moment to enjoy the satisfaction that came with watching the man drop his weapon and all but collapse onto the ground, before shooting up and bolting. He heard shouting behind him, followed by the sounds of gunfire. A bullet struck a tree next to him, but he didn’t waste any time stopping to look, he just ran. He ran until the noise had faded away behind him, until he could no longer properly breath and had no choice but to stop.

Panting, he looked behind him, almost expecting to hear a gun suddenly go off once more. That didn’t happen though, and once again the forest had returned to the silence it was before. He brought his right hand up to his bleeding shoulder, hopping the pressure would help prevent him from loosing to much more blood then he already had.

Decidng he was out of danger, at least for the moment, he began to simply walk, hoping to find the path that would lead him back to camp. He had no idea which direction he had ran, and the forest was much to dense in the area he was in to see the sun, so he had to merely trust his gut and start walking in an ittedly random direction.

He must have walked for at least an hour, refusing to turn back or choose a different direction because he had to come out of this forest somewhere, when he suddenly walked right out onto the dish dirt path he had been looking for. Sighing in relief, he began to walk back in the direction of camp.

As he walked, his mind wandered back to something the redcoat had said, something that was for some reason sticking to him more then anything else.

You’ve dedicated your life to a mistake.

Something about that had struck a chord within him, an almost an unknown sense of foreboding. He pushed it away though, shaking it off as him just being shaken up, or maybe even the blood loss finally getting to him.

Because maybe this was all a mistake, maybe it was just pointless and stupid.

But then again, maybe not.

[C]Joseph Warren was a smart man, and he could usually find his

So I wrote this story a few months ago, and while researching Joseph Warren I can say that I 100% fell in love. (Not romantically or anything weird, but I really love researching his life and stuff.)

Anyway, I wrote this as a sort of prequel to my first story about him. I would like to say that I don’t believe something like this actually happened to him, I mean it could of but I haven’t seen anything about it happening. I just made this scenario up at one in the morning, so I got out my phone, opened the notes app, and wrote it down.

Obviously I stuck some little... I call them Easter eggs, into this one regarding to the first story. They’re not very subtle, so if you’ve read the first story you probably noticed them, but I thought it was a little cool. Idk.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my story! Expect some more Joseph Warren in the future. I think I’m going to write a fluffy story about him and his kids next, but if you have any ideas feel free to comment!

So until next time, this is Cat g off~
