So I don't think I told you guys this but I am making an AU--well I'm not making it, WE are making it, specifically, Våpen and I.
We're having a blast coming up with the characters to be included and other narratives that will touch on the unexplored sections of Marvel that Marvel hasn't adressed/has yet to address.
So far we've included elements of both MCU and 616 and have been working to set the tone on more realistic outcomes and plots. I like to say that we're redoing the concept of the ultimates except without the... mistakes.
Yeah we aim to set the Marvel universe in our modern day society in a refreshed way to reintroduce old character origins that might have been lost along the way and concepts that were left out in the MCU 'cause ya know, the comics are fun.
It's basically a collaborative fic and we've already posted the first chapter and it's been well received but you must be thinking:
"Why should this be important for me to note?"
Well that's not what you should be noting but hold on, lemme talk, I promise that I don't talk out my ass.
As I said before, we've set the universe to include our characters (any character labelled under Earth-3220) so that we can explore parts of Marvel that Marvel has not touched and in that roster of characters is T'Kira.
Now I'm not gonna tell you about him, the link to his wiki is at the bottom but I'm going to tell you about something in the story I picked up on.
Now I've set T'Kira to be one of the more powerful forces in that universe (more powerful than Thor if you want an idea) but I hadn't defined how powerful so I set to work on that.
Firstly I defined what his magic and powers were rooted from; the wellspring of power a.k.a the well of all things (it's a canon source of untapped power, check it out).

Then I defined what the well could do (the well is a portal to a resource of extra dimensional energies that could alter time, space and even reality) but I found myself drawing a blank. Marvel never really defined the upper nor the lower limits of this (If they had then I hadn't seen that) and as such they never explicitly stated what it could do, only that it was very powerful and there was a chance someone could harness it which was something that the Ten Rings sought to do (look for the Iron Heart comics and read to to get a better understanding of that).
Overall, I gave a character a shit tonne of undefined strength and that was bad. I wanted T'Kira to be powerful but I didn't want T'Kira to be god because if I did that then it wouldn't make a very interesting story so I had to play with the limitations of T'Kira's powers.
That's when I set to work.

Firstly I wanted to define the upper limits of his powers so I began my research and went to figure out how exactly his powers would work.
That's when I visited my old friend Google and worked through their search engine.
I found out that the human body is constantly running energy (already knew that) but another fact that I found interesting was that the bigger the organism, the slower the energy had to work and the more energy that was being used and the smaller the organism, the less energy it has and the faster that energy runs to keep the organism alive, that explained why big animals were slow and why small rodents generally consumed a lot. I did some more research and found out that balance of energy is so fragile in organisms that they have to be made a certain way to handle said energy.
Taking the rodent and big animals as examples, I found out some interesting results.
If a rodent was to grow bigger than it already was, the energy that already flows through it's body wouldn't suffice to keep it alive, meaning that it would run a chance of exploding because the rate at which energy was flowing would be too much for the rodent's size and if you were to shrink a large animal then it's heart would give out or it would drop dead because its energy was moving too slow to work with it's size (I'm paraphrasing so you might wamna research to get a better idea id what I'm talking about) but then at that time, it clicked why the animals in the Ant-Man movie died after changing size (points for scientific accuracy really).

Now this gave me a good understanding of how T'Kira's body and powers would actually work.
Firstly, T'Kira's body would have to have been born in a way where he could adapt to all the natural energies of their universe so he could handle harnessing the extra dimensional energies that the well contains.
Secondly, although T'Kira's soul was already mystically attuned to the well to allow him to use his powers, it would also have to be made to filter only enough energy so that T'Kira doesn't die.
So here I established a weakness and a limitation to this power:
T'Kira can't use too much or he dies due to the unbalanced flow of that energy and he is limited to the amount of energy he can output by his body's natural filter.
That's when I had to ask a question:
How much energy can one mortal, human Sorcerer output?
That's when I had to look over everything in Marvel comics for an answer. Firstly, I can't use thanos and the infinity gauntlet as an example because thanos I partly and eternal and as such has a superior genetic make up and I could reference any mutants because they were made differently too (I mean they are call homo-superior) which left me with the few cases of human sorcerers who gained a lot of power.
That's when I ed God King Doom from Secret Wars and Doctor Strange.
Let's start simple, Doctor Strange once was able to absorb the power of the Yggdrasil in asgard and well he gained a hell of a lot of power, while then upper limits of this power aren't well defined, we can say that he was hella powerful.

Next we have God King Doom, by his standard, I could say that the most powerful thing he's done was reshaping the multiverse into battle world and that would require a lot of power.

It would be a huge energy input and a significant energy output but then I ed that doom had absorbed the power of tbe beyonders so it kinda couldn't count since that wasn't his power and his physiology could have changed to match the energy adaptability of the beyonders but since T'Kira would be wired around the same way, I could assume that T'Kira was born around that same level of energy adaptability with a few inferior limitations so with that we can assume that T'Kira, at his most can access power to that of or less than God King Doom.

Now, seeing that God King Doom was able to combat powers like the infinity gauntlet, I would think that T'Kira could do the same thing but with the added consequences of hurting himself as I would imagine that something like that would require him to by his natural filter and absorb more energy than he could take.

Overall, T'Kira is a middle way between God King Doctor Doom and Yggdrasil Doctor Strange (and that isn't as powerful as strange could get, if you read his older comics then you'll see he was stronger then, you could also check a channel on YouTube called comicsexplainned if you want to check. I majorly respect the guy who runs this channel and he's got a lot of good info that you could use if you want to).
So now I have a solid power source for T'Kira and I've outlined a limit, a weakness and given a relative power scaling. What's missing?
Well some added info is what's missing, in-universe, Jorah is of equal power to T'Kira and the energy he hosts (astral energy) can severely hurt T'Kira but why and how?
Well as our story goes, the astral energy is a foreign entity from another universe that remade the universe that they currently live in before it came to be what it currently is and since astral energy isn't a natural part of their universe, T'Kira can't adapt to it and so he will most definitely get hurt if his body tries to harness it or if he's attacked by it. Additionally, astral energy is based on the principle of entropy which means that it works on randomness (with the exception that astral energy is more chaotic than actual entropy with more dangerous outcomes) and you can't adapt to chaotic randomness so instead you get hurt by it.
In essence Jorah could beat T'Kira but also T'Kira could beat Jorah , I have theories but I'm not gonna say how because Hela would kill me and I don't want anyone misusing that knowledge to use it against Hela.
So a quick recap:
T'Kira has the ability to harness energy from the well of all things and his body able to additionally adapt to and conduct any form of natural energy in his universe, his weakness is foreign energy, limitations of the human body and his own mortality. I've established his power's origin, capabilities and weaknesses but you must be asking "why? Why did you read this? What was the point of this?"
I'll tell you the point. The point is to research. I've been referencing to researching for my character so much here. Basically, research allows you to flesh out the exact capabilities of what your characters are capable of doing with themselves and give you solid grounds as to how you can theoretically use a character.
Now all that is fine and good but how do you test the theory you've developed from all this research?
Well I suggest that you try to test them in group chats (reasonably), pace your character's power and personal development through an RP chat so that you get an effective view of how your character would affect others around you. You could try 1x1s but the multiple perspectives in group RP can give you an insight as to how well you've fleshed out your character and a chat I can recommend is MMH (Marvel's Mightiest Heroes)!
This chat allows for you to use OCs categorised under the MCU, comics, EMHs and Ultimates (as long as you're reasonable about) plus with it's versatile chat , you can see how your character interacts with other OCs and CCs which can lead to very interesting character Dynamics you could make use of. We host a variety of plots which pushes your characters into various situations that you might be able to use for any future stories you might wish to share.
Also if you're interested, Earth-3220 is always open to accepting to our collaboration, we welcome ideas from various sections of marvel and are dedicated to helping you craft that perfect story for your Marvel OC, we also have many great minds working with us who are more than happy to get to know your story and see what you can contribute to the story of Earth-3220. If you wanna then PM me and I'll see how we can make you a part of our team.
Ok, enough advertising, that's all I have to say on the matter, have a good day and I'll see y'all around.
