Hey there, welcome to my post! I'm Kanna, and today, I will be applying to the position of trial curator. As usual, I'm extremely grateful for the chance to apply and am excited to see who will be the new ing the list of staff.

Before we get started, I wish every other applicant good luck. Becoming a curator is a widespread dream, and I'm sure that the other applicants could do great in the position.

And now, without further ado, let's proceed into the questions- thank you so, so much for coming and for reading, and I hope you'll enjoy.

Tell us some things about yourself. (AJ experience, time zone, hobbies, strengths/weaknesses, what you post, anything else we should know, etc.)

My name is Kanna, although please feel free to call me Kan- or even my old nicknames, Garde and Gard! I live in the Pacific Timezone (PST), and I am a high school female. I started playing AJ in September 2016, when I was introduced to the game by one of my great friends at the time, Jia. Ever since I’ve greatly enjoyed logging on and seeing what’s new, den decorating, or sometimes going on adventures!

Jia also introduced me to AJA towards the end of 2016. Although I didn’t get the app that year, I eventually did in March 2017 and have loved being a part of the community ever since.

Here on AJA I try to post many different things for interest purposes, including writing, edits, den maps, art, and occasionally crafts. Sometimes I also make groupposts for the various groups I’m a part of. My favorite posts to make, however, are writing and edits. Currently, I’m working on a story series called By Moonlight Bound; I’m still in the process of writing the prologue, but so far I’m really liking how the story’s turning out. As for editing, whether the edit’s for a group, a gift, or just for fun, it’s something I really enjoy doing.

How long have you used Amino?

Because AJA was my first Amino, I’ve been using Amino since I ed AJA on March 15, 2017 (2 years and 120 days as of July 013).

How active are you? (Please include screenshots of your AJA stats and check-ins!)

I would say I’m active on this Amino!

I apologise that my minutes are lower than normal; I haven’t been able to be on AJA as often as usual this past week. Usually I should be active around 700 minutes per week or more.

I check in every day unless I’m unable to for a reason such as being on vacation without wifi. On average, I’m online two or more hours per day on phone- and around an hour per day on computer Amino, which I believe doesn’t add to the minutes shown.

Do you have prior experience as a staff member in another group or Amino? Which one(s) and what rank are/were you? (Member, Curator, Co-leader, Leader?)

Yes! I was previously a staff member on multiple smaller Aminos, but unfortunately I resigned from my positions due to the Aminos becoming inactive. However, I am a staff member in multiple groups on this Amino, including *lead of 05 groups (JEC, DIYJ, AJIS, JA, FC), lead of 02 groups (CJ, TGT), and colead of 05 groups (AJAG, TT, MRT, Starbucks, and AJSG).

How well can you handle criticism and honest opinions?

I would say I handle criticism and honest opinions well. Instead of taking criticism purely as insults, I take criticism as a way to try to improve myself as a person, and simply ignore the rude aspects. While I definitely can’t say I love receiving criticism, I do find it quite helpful sometimes so I can try to figure out how to be a better person. I especially love constructive criticism, and sometimes ask for it on posts or in chats.

As for honest opinions, I acknowledge that everyone thinks differently and someone’s opinion may be different than mine. If someone were to tell me a negative honest opinion about myself, I would take it like criticism and try to use their input to improve myself as a person. Or, if it were about a piece of my work (writing, edit, etc), I would try to use their input to improve my work from then on.

What qualities do you believe any staff member should have? Which qualities are you lacking, and how can you improve from them?

First and foremost, I believe a good staff member should have the qualities of a leader. Even though most of the 70k community isn’t active, there’s still hundreds of people that check in daily, and more that check in occasionally- running a community this big requires huge amounts of leadership. A staff member should be able to help their fellow s run the community to the best of their ability, and help bring the community overall to a place above where it is now- by helping improve AJA however they can. I believe I possess leadership qualities already- being a member in many groups and staff member in multiple, I would say that I’ve experienced being a leader and possess the qualities a good leader should have.

Secondly, a good staff member should be nonbiased. If there’s a bad fight between a staff member’s friend and someone the staff member dislikes, and it looks as if the friend may be in the wrong, the staff member shouldn’t choose to punish the person they dislike for the sake of helping their friend or preserving friendships. I believe that I am nonbiased- if I have to do something bad but important to a friend (for example, a warning or demotion in a group), I will do it; and I always get over my disliking for a person when it comes to an important decision.

A quality I believe a staff member should have, that I lack, is confidence. Whenever I make something- whether it be writing, an edit, or (commonly), art- I always like how it’s turned out at first, but after coming back and relooking at what I’ve made, I quite dislike how it turned out. I never really take pride in what I do, and really only see what’s wrong in my work. To improve in this aspect, I should remind myself that no one’s perfect, and I will improve- after all, I definitely have already, and as they say, practice makes perfect.

Why do you want to be a Curator? Why do you have the potential to be a part of the staff team?

My main reason I would like to become a curator is because AJA has done so much for me- helping me both to expand and improve in my hobbies and interests, and helped me to grow as a person. I know that we’re in a pretty rough spot now, and as a thank-you to everyone who’s ed me and to the community as a whole, I want to become a curator so I can give back to everyone.

From the position of curator, I can help this community to grow and flourish, and become a better place- welcoming, ive, and fun. Everyone always talks about how great the “old AJA” was, and always mention missing how active and interesting this Amino used to be. From the position of curator, I would like to try to help bring this community to the state it once was, so that people truly enjoy spending time on the app and look forwards to logging on every day.

I believe I have the potential to be a curator for multiple reasons. First of all, I’m a staff member in 12 groups on this Amino, and have lots of leadership experience- I already have many of the skills a good staff member should possess and I am used to having to make harder decisions or choices. I can take criticism well, and I am active within the community.

Additionally, I’ve been in this community for a while, which has helped me to understand the community better, therefore leading me to make better decisions as a member of the staff team. Throughout my time on this Amino, I’ve also grown to really love the community; so if I became a curator, I’d be extremely dedicated to the role and to helping out AJA.

What changes do you have in mind for Amino? What can you contribute to improving this Amino as well?

I have multiple smaller changes in mind for this Amino, such as hosting more contests and events. These can both help to raise activity within the Amino and help bring of the community closer together. I also think that these contests and events should be aimed at both new and old , and not make a member have to commit to taking a part of it over a length of time. This way, everyone is able to participate even if they can’t check in every day, or just don’t feel like doing so.

In addition, I think should be encouraged more to try out new things- for example, writing or edits- instead of just posting art, because both the latest and featured feeds are often just clogged up with art. While that’s certainly not a bad thing, having more diversity in the community, in my opinion, simply leads to a healthier community. I think that by hosting contests designed specifically to trying out new hobbies would be a great way to do so, and could get a lot of to participate, greatly increasing the post diversity.

To improve this Amino, I can help maintain a healthy community by fulfilling all the duties a good curator must fulfill. I can feature posts, help solve disputes, and help make important decisions regarding things such as rules. I can also help to host contests and events, and try my hardest to help make AJA a fun, interesting place.

How often would you use breaks? Will you have time to fulfill your tasks needed as a dependable Curator?

Currently, I rarely take breaks, and I expect that if I became a curator this would be no different. Typically, I only take breaks if I go on vacation- and even while on vacation, I try to check in to AJA every day to keep updated with what’s happening in my groups. I don’t take vacations too often; usually only once a year for one to two weeks per trip. Sometimes I take day-long breaks if I go somewhere I won’t have good internet access the whole day- for example, an amusement park.

I will have time to fulfill the tasks needed as a dependable curator. As I don’t often go on break and as I am active, I will be able to complete the duties required of me as a trustworthy member of staff.

In your own words, what content do you deem feature-worthy?

When deciding whether or not to feature a post, there are four qualities I’d say are the most important to look for, as follows:

Originality. When compared to other posts of its type, does the post in question stand out? For example, when deciding if a story should be featured, does the post have an interesting, unique, never-before-seen storyline?

Appeal. Is the post worth reading? Was the post content well-made? Was the post content interesting (in the case of writing) or appealing to the eye (in the case of edits, dens, art, crafts, etc)? For example, when deciding if an edit should be featured, is it worth it to spend time reading the post? Is the edit good, and does it appeal to the eye?

Detail. Did the post creator put little extras into their work to enhance it overall? For example, when deciding if a den should be featured, does the den have a lot of items in strategic locations or small items used to fill up empty space in order to enhance the den’s look overall?

Effort. Did the post creator spend time making their post content look nice? Did they try their hardest while making their post content? For example, when deciding if a piece of art should be featured, did the artist spend time- an hour, or hours- into making their art the best they could?

A member is constantly attacking the same artist. They keep insisting their work is terrible, and are showing no respect to the victim. What do you do?

First of all, I would screenshot the messages sent (for proof purposes), then delete said messages so to prevent further harassment. Next, I would PM the harasser a warning for their actions and let them know that what they did isn’t tolerated here. If they accepted the warning and stopped harassing the artist, I would leave the PM, but I would still keep an eye on them to watch out for potential harmful actions from the harasser in the future. If the harasser didn’t stop attacking the artist, I would either talk to them about it again or ask the staff for potential solutions depending on the severity of their actions.

[

A fit of drama starts within a group chat. Several are going at each other while bystanders occasionally give their own input, fueling the fire. What do you do upon seeing this?

My first step would be to calm the drama in the chat and try to prevent any further fights from breaking out. Next, I would PM both sides, along with the bystanders, and ask for what had happened. Depending on the severity of the drama, I would either give a light or heavy warning to both sides; and, depending on how bad the bystanders had been, I might give them a warning, as well. Finally, I would tell the whole staff team about what had happened as reference for future situations.

What measure would you take if a member sent you a suicidal message or tell you that they wish to harm themselves?

If this were to happen, I would first advise them to get help somewhere else, as social media isn’t a good place to receive help for things like this. I would also reference things such as the suicide prevention lifeline number. However, I know that some people may feel uncomfortable or unsafe getting help irl, and so I would offer to give help as best as I could, try to help them feel a bit better, and just talk. Having someone to speak with sometimes can make a big difference.

Are you bilingual or multilingual? If so, which languages do you speak?

I’ve learned a bit of German and might know enough to have a basic talk with someone. I also know a little bit of Spanish and Latin, but definitely not enough to have a conversation.

This school year, I’m taking Japanese, and I’ll likely know enough Japanese to have a basic conversation with people after a few months of class.

Would you be able to deal with mature or sensitive topics?

Yes. Although these situations are harder to deal with for many people, including me, if faced a mature or sensitive topic I would fulfill my duty as a curator and deal with it accordingly/however the situation required me to.

Your friend asks you for strictly private staff information. If you don't share it, they threaten to reveal secretive information about you to many people. What do you do?

This is blackmailing, which violates the guidelines as it is categorized as harassment (as stated by a staff member in the comments of the guidelines). My immediate response would be to screenshot the message, then to talk to the staff about the blackmail to discuss a fitting punishment for the “friend.”

Despite what the “friend” may have blackmailed me with, I would not share the private staff info; as a curator, it would by my duty to keeping the information safe no matter the circumstances.
