ssca is hosting its first ever official

christmas event! :sparkling_heart:

this holiday, we are hosting an

event called “Dear Santa” all December

long~

how it works: ∘ܿ ┊

1. we will pick random people from around the community to gift! these presents might be free tickets, art, etc.

2. we want to know what YOU want! & we might be able to grant it :heartbeat: comment below or pm us your wish list (art, edits, etc.) make sure to start your message with “dear Santa” so we know you’ve read the rules.

3. this event is our thank you to you for being so ive of our group :seedling:

perhaps the most chilling

traditions of Christmas, this guy is someone

you DONT want to visit you on xmas day :skull:

krampus is a tradition that is famous in

austria 🇦🇹 he is pictured as a beast-like

demon creature who roams the streets at

night,punishing the bad children on Christmas~

” ...nope, this isn’t Halloween, but St. Nicholas’ evil accomplice, Krampus. In Austrian tradition, St. Nicholas rewards nice little boys and girls, while Krampus is said to capture the naughtiest children and whisk them away in his sack. In the first week of December, young men dress up as the Krampus (especially on the eve of St. Nicholas Day) frightening children with clattering chains and bells.”

this bizarre tradition is famous in

Sweden 🇸🇪! every year since 1966,

a 13 meter tall Yule Goat is built

in the Gävle’s castle square :goat:

“...this Swedish Christmas tradition has unwittingly led to another ‘tradition’ of sorts – people trying to burn it down. Since 1966 the Goat has been successfully burned down 29 times – the most recent destruction was in 2016.” :fire:

Icelandic Yule Lads love to stir up mischievous

Christmas traditions :sparkles: In the 13 days

leading up to Christmas, the Yule Lads

(troll-like trickster characters) visit the children

across the country. 🇮🇸

”For each night of Yuletide, children place their best shoes by the window and a different Yule Lad visits leaving gifts for nice girls and boys and rotting potatoes for the naughty ones. Clad in traditional Icelandic costume, these fellas are pretty mischievous, and their names hint at the type of trouble they like to cause: Stekkjastaur (Sheep-Cote Clod), Giljagaur (Gully Gawk), Stúfur (Stubby), Þvörusleikir (Spoon-Licker), Pottaskefill (Pot-Scraper), Askasleikir (Bowl-Licker), Hurðaskellir (Door-Slammer), Skyrgámur (Skyr-Gobbler), Bjúgnakrækir (Sausage-Swiper), Gluggagægir (Window-Peeper), Gáttaþefur (Doorway-Sniffer), Ketkrókur (Meat-Hook) and Kertasníkir (Candle-Stealer)...” :mans_shoe:

distinguishes the beginning of the Christmas

season in Columbia 🕯 In honour of the

Virgin Mary and the Immaculate Conception

and paper lanterns in their balconies, windows,

are pretty peculiar 🇻🇪

early Christmas Eve, residents head

to church :church: normal, right? wait for it.

however, they do so on roller skates !

why do they do this? well, we don’t

really know.

“This unique tradition is so popular that roads across the city are closed to cars so that people can skate to church in safety, before heading home for the less-than-traditional Christmas dinner of ‘tamales’ (a wrap made out of cornmeal dough and stuffed with meat, then steamed).” 🥩

8 days each November or December,

a special candle holder called

menorah is lighted. the Jews do this

in remembrance of an ancient “miracle in which one day’s worth of oil burned for eight days in the temple. During Hanukkah, many Jews also eat special potato pancakes called latkes, sing songs, and spin a top called a dreidel to win chocolate coins, nuts, or raisins.” :chocolate_bar:

Epiphany, or Three Kings Day, comes

at the end of the 12 days of Christmas.

“This holiday is celebrated as the day the three wise men first saw baby Jesus and brought him gifts. On this day in Spain, many children get their Christmas presents. In Puerto Rico, before children go to sleep on January 5, they leave a box with hay under their beds so the kings will leave good presents. In , a delicious King cake is baked. St Lucia Day was created to honor the third century saint on December 13th~ “...many girls in Sweden dress up as ‘Lucia brides’ in long white gowns with red sashes, and a wreath of burning candles on their heads. Kwanzaa, meaning “First Fruits”, is based off of ancient African harvest festivals “and celebrates ideals such as family life and unity.
