Hello and welcome to another part from our Spellbind x Soulstrings collab.

Me and Mak decided to give each other one artist and 8 songs from various hiphop/rock artists to review, and here's what I got from her. I was so impressed with everything but I'm not going to spoil more, you have to read. :eyes:

As someone who's not familiar with Fiestar nor Unpretty Rapstar, I didn't know much about Yezi and to be honest I never listened to her songs carefully. But I did right now and I don't have any regret, I actually want to thank Mak so much for introducing me to such an amazing woman. And I need to write that in capitals and underline it, because I wasn't prepared to find such a cool, strong, honest, talented and charismatic artist.

Since I am supposed to focus on her solo stuff, I didn't look much into Fiestar's music, but I need to mention this one song Mirror that I absolutely adored. Yezi's voice, even if she's more like a low tone rapper, fits slower songs so well.

After that, of course I checked her Unpretty Rapstar performances and let me tell you, I would've watched the entire thing just for her if I had time and also I lack the patience to deal with Mnet's shady games, because I saw Yezi herself saying that they edited stuff to make them look angry and there are people saying that everything was scripted. I really ire the fact that she talked about it and she didn't let them control her and her performances.

Now, back onto her stages. First of all, there's the final diss battle (I'm starting from the end for no reason, or maybe because it was epic) where, for me, she was the winner. Someone was kind enough to translate the lyrics and post them in the comments, and hers were more suitable for that battle and her performance was overall better, I don't see how she lost. Another memorable one that seems to impress everyone, not only me, it's Crazy dog. I've never seen so many different reactions to a performance: Mad Clown looked scared when she started rapping (her facial expression change was indeed intimidating) and San E looked lowkey proud and impressed.

I also noticed how different she was from the other contestants. She stood true to herself, she performed what she wanted, she said what she wanted, she wore what she wanted. I loved how she chose not to wear those kind of street outfits that rappers usually rock, but kept her own style. And besides her fierce image, she is such a sweet girl.

As for her solo music, or collabs, or anything that features her basically, leaving aside the one song that Mak gave me, i will mention two that I liked a lot!

⇝In your eyes (Yangzoo, Yezi)

This is actually an ost from "Are you human?" and it's such a sweet and chill song. It exactly what you would expect to hear from an ost, but it's so refreshing to hear her trying something different, because her voice sounds softer than in other songs and it matches really well with Yangzoo's warm voice.

⇝Cider (Yezi)

This one is just impressive, okay? From music to delivery, stage presence, charisma, dance and outfit, everything was so well planned to make this stage perfect. M Countdown rarely sees stages like this one and it deserved a big big win. Even if it was her solo debut, you can see that she is experiencing already.

My opinion: Yezi is an amazing artist, honestly. She is so confident without being arrogant, her style is unique and her songs are awesome. I will definitely continue to follow and her and I will also listen to Fiestar because I enjoyed everything I listened to so far!

⇝ Unpretty dreams (Jessi, prod. Gray)

„I didn't choose it, music chose me“

It surely did, queen. The moment I heard „I did it for the love“, I knew I had to read the lyrics. I always appreciated music with meaningful lyrics and it takes a lot to come out with a song like this one, where she's basically talking about all her struggles and hardships, trying to become an artist in Korea where standards were against her. I ire her a lot and I love her singing and rapping and the way she expressed her emotions through this song.

⇝ Love! Dance! ( Haon, prod. Boycold)

This is such a lovely song! I expected this type of song when I read the title, but it still surprised me. I was waiting for a beat drop in the e chorus but I was so happy that instead he is singing. There's nothing too deep about the lyrics and nothing never-done-before about the instrumental but his voice alone makes it outstanding. I'll definitely add this to my playlist of summery bops.

⇝Windmill (Bigone)

Because of our collab with Soulbind, I found so many new artists and one of those I really liked was actually Bigone. As someone who enjoys a good autotune song, I can't see why people are complaining about this one because it really sounds good, it's not overused to the point where you can't understand what he is saying. And we should also appreciate this music video, 3:11 minutes of just Daeil being beautiful.

⇝Statues (Junoflo)

This is another one of the songs I heard before, I actually heard the entire album (100% would recommend). First of all, his voice is so impressive. It was definitely an intense song, but still smooth and easy to listen to. You would think about a song like this one when you hear "hiphop". And that music video full of effects was so aesthetically pleasing, I loved it.

⇝Chase (Yezi)

Another song from our girl, it was hard waiting until not to write about it but we're finally here. You can hear her rap in every song but in this one she is actually singing a bit and it sounds so pretty! Babylon gave is an incredible vocal performance and I'll definitely check out his music as well. I'm referring mostly to their live jazz version on this song, first because I love jazz arrangements and second because their live vocals are pure blessings. Everyone has to hear this.

⇝Tequila (G.Soul ft. Hoody)

With this song, I'm sure that someone stole my playlist and gave it to Mak because it's mind-blowing how I like every single one. I mean let's be honest, there's G.Soul and there's Hoody and there are summer vibes so what can be bad about it? They are both vocal gods and it's so pleasing to hear them both in one song. Also props to whoever filmed the music video, the scenes and close-ups are breathtaking!

⇝119 remix (51 hiphop artists, prod. Gray)

Mak told me to feel free to skip whatever parts I don't like, but I listened to the whole thing a few times because everything sounds so good! It's so nice to see so many artists working together, Gray proved again that he is a top notch producer. Plus everything they gained from this was donated to fire accidents related organisations so there's another reason to listen to this masterpiece.

⇝2 beer (Kisum)

I left this song at the end because I have so many things to say about it. Musically, I liked it as much as I liked the others but I relate so much to her lyrics that I might keep it in my heart for a long long time. I always liked how many hiphop songs, even if the genre is harder to digest than your regular pop songs, feel more approachable because of their relatable lyrics. And this song is one of them, I believe you all felt like this at least once in your lifetime. So yeah, it's a relaxing song to listen to after a hard day.
