In my 5 years of kpop, i learnt these things

i i got into the world of kpop back in 2020 which is almost a year of my high school graduation and that was because some girls from my coaching class were huge fans of BTS and that's how I got to know the entire kpop thing, slowly and eventually. I hate to it that I also used to be a cringe fangirl before but over the years, I've learnt things about the entire kpop thingy and I think I'd like to share them with y'all.

you can't express your opinion

this has to be heartbreaking but be it good or bad, you can't express your opinion regarding any kpop group or fandom because apparently, there will be atleast one group of people that will find it wrong, will get under their thick skin and they'll end up trolling you. This hasn't happened to me which I'm glad about, but I've seen it happening to others, be it irl or over social media. It's gotta be a nightmare istg.

you can't have the same bias

now this bias thing kinda irks me but since it's a ritual in kpop, I do have biases. But one thing I've came to learn is that kpop fandoms don't really like it when someone else has the same bias as them. I used to think that networking and communication improves when you like the same thing, but it's totally opposite here. Although I've been lucky to have met some ive group of fans here on amino, but not everyone. I know a friend who's bias is Yeonjun in txt, and then there was some other girl, who had the same bias and she literally cursed this girl because she believed that Yeonjun is her husband and she should stay away. Like bro, wake up!

shipping sucks

now I know there might be many who like doing this and you do you, but istg, it sucks. Shipping two random idols is basically wanting 2 random strangers to hook up, like, why!? Be it idols from different groups, different friends, or the same group, their friendships are so overly s**alised. Like, why can't two men or two women just be friends without being NSFW fanfictions written on them! Let them be friends in peace for god's sake.

kpop is just a phase

and last but not the least, it took me just 1 year to realise this but that's real, kpop is just a phase. When I was a new fan, even I used to think that kpop will stay with me forever, would watch their content 24/7, think about them all day, but as soon as college started, all of that just kinda faded. And I went some straight 3 years without being an avid kpop fan or following them like I used to. I just got back into it last year when I got some gruesome reality checks at college and I'm glad I'm still enjoying them but, it hurts to say that, I'm not the same kpop fan I used to be. And its yet another reminder that kpop truly is just a phase.
