The keys stretch out, a path so wide,

Black and white, no place to hide.

Each step I take must match the sound,

Too soft, too loud- they turn around.

They watch, they wait, expect, demand,

My fingers move at their command.

No time to pause, no room for wrong,

The rhythm calls, so I play along.

The pace picks up, I start to slip,

A single miss turns into a sudden rip.

Yet still, I run, I chase, I play,

Afraid to stop, afraid to stray.

But as the echoes start to fade,

I wonder why I even stayed.

For in their song, their endless race,

I lost my tune, I lost my place.

This poem is about the pressure many of us feel when trying to meet other people's expectations. It compares that pressure to playing a piano, where each key represents something we have to do or a demand we need to fulfill. Just like in a game of piano tiles, or playing the piano normally, there's no room for mistakes, and we constantly try to stay in rhythm with what others want. But, as the pace picks up and we miss a note, we start to feel the weight of it all. In the end, we realize that while we're so focused on pleasing everyone else, we lose touch with who we really are. It's a reminder to find balance and not lose ourselves in the race to meet others' expectations. 🫶🏻 You're just as worthy and it's totally okay to set boundaries and to follow your own path, even if that means that the rhythm will slow down a little. ˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡
