Finally

Hello LGBT+ Amino, it’s your fellow lesbian here. This post is going to be shorter than others but I just wanted to make it to keep you all informed and show you why today is a joyous day.

Thank you for the feature! I’ve had a whole hour of legalised gay marriage so far and it’s been non-stop happiness and waving my lesbian flag around.

Today is the day gay marriage is legalised in my home country of Northern Ireland.

Finally, after years of oppression, we can marry who we want.

Finally, we are recognised as actual couples in the eyes of the law.

Finally, all the fighting and pushing we have done has been worth it.

Finally, we are letting go of our traditional, homophobic roots.

Finally, the North is now.

This is a win. This is a success. We can marry who we want legally now. We won’t be ignored anymore. We aren’t a second thought, we aren’t being oppressed for simply wanting to marry who we want.

The North is Now.
