Over-indulgence or a lack of self-
control in food, drink or wealth items,
especially as status symbols, is called
gluttony. Gluttony worships food in
order to satisfy our desire for self-love.
Gluttony is defined as "habitual greed
or excess in eating...greedy or exces-
sive indulgence" by Merriam-Webster.

֎Get rid of distractions. Don't watch
TV or play games while eating. If you
don't focus on your food, you'll gain
more calories and will eat more later
that day.
֎Know your trigger foods. If you really
love eating chips, stop storing them at
home. If you don't have any at home,
you'll definitely eat less than you would
usually.
֎Avoid eating from packages. Portion
food into a dish instead of eating them
directly from the package. Try measuring
out proper sizes to teach your eye to
recognize how much food is advised as
an average meal.
֎Reduce stress. Stress is a major factor
for overeating for many people, so by
reducing stress you could also reduce
overeating.
֎Slow down when eating. If you focus on
on eating more slowly and chewing food
thoroughly, it could show you signs of
fullness and reduce overeating.
֎Avoid drinking sugary drinks. Sugary
drinks increase the chance of diabetes
and other diseases and could also lead
to overweight. Drink water or healthier
alternatives instead.
֎Get professional help. If you binge on
excessive amounts of food, lack control
and feel guilty, you could have binge
disorder and should get professional help.

The virtue opposing gluttony is temperance.
Temperance is a virtue that moderates
attraction and desire for pleasure. Whereas
Gluttony means, more or less, the opposite
of that.
