How to tell if someone is homophobic?

Hello! So with the new school year for me, I have also started making some new friends! But I don’t know if they’re homophobic because that general subject just hasn’t come up. So is there a subtle way to see what they think about LGBTQIA+ people without outing myself? That’s all!

How I've done it before is either directly asking what their viewpoint was or I've talked about how i don't really like homophobia. I've done these and surprisingly they didn't suspect anything so yeah

I usually ask their preferred pronouns

If I've know them for a while I say something like "oh I just realized I never asked your preferred pronouns!" OR you could wear pride pins, bracelets, necklaces, shirts, etc!
