Dear Future Me,

I wondered what I would say to you, what questions I may ask. I hope that life is better in 10 years, did we get married? Did we have kids? Did we make a difference in the world. I would love to know if maybe you could write back and tell me what's different. I’m scared for what the future may hold and knowing that you’re already there (hopefully) gives me some reassurance. As of right now, I have been with my girlfriend for a little over a year and there is just not enough words to describe how happy I am. I am in my final year of highschool and in May will be graduating. I will be going to college after that but that’s all I know for now. I am also working on getting my drivers license finally. Are you still scared to drive like I am right now? Will I ever have confidence in myself? Will I get my dream job? Will I be happy? I know you can’t answer these questions now, but I hope when you open this capsule that you can.

In my time capsule, I would put a camera that my dad used to take pictures with. I chose this because I am really close to my dad and it just brings so many memories to me of my childhood and memories of him. I would put in one of my stuffed animals. I chose this because I love my stuffed animals. I want to be able to remind my older self that it’s ok to have/love stuffed animals and to not forget our childhood. I would put in a picture of my parent’s dog and my two cats. I chose this because these three amazing animals have made a huge impact in my life and I never want to forget. I would put in a pair of my old shoes that I’ve had since 6th grade. I chose this because I’ve had so many good and bad memories in those shoes and I just feel like my older self will appreciate it. And finally I would put in a picture of myself as of right now. I chose this because I know so much is going to change in the next 10 years, I may change completely and so I want to be able to look back at how much I’ve grown since 2020.

I would bury my time capsule, in my backyard and I would bury it right next to the swing. I chose this location because I’ve spent a lot of my life in my backyard. There are so many memories that I can think of in reason why I would put it there. I would always go outside and play make believe going into my own little world where no troubles could touch me. It’s also a place that I can come back easily after I move out.

If I trusted someone enough I do feel like I would tell them about my capsule. I would tell my parents because the yard is on their house property so if they were to ever move or away then they could maybe make a note about my time capsule so the new people who move in are aware. I would tell my friends, because I think that maybe I could get them to do a time capsule to and then in 10 years we could get out capsules and open them together. I would tell my cats, because they won’t judge me. And finally I would tell my girlfriend, because I know that she would be interested and would like to hear what I put in it.
