1905 - 1924

Abraham was born in El Oro, State of Mexico and was the youngest of 5 siblings. His mother Francisca Valdez had fallen in love with a Welsh miner and adventurer and because of his lifestyle he was often absent in the family.

This led to Abraham's oldest brother Adolfo becoming head of the family for much of his life. They lived in a strict Protestant environment. It was the religion professed by their father and eagerly adopted by Adolfo.

At age 16, Abraham began seeking studies for art and painting at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. A decision that was was met with incredible opposition from his brother. During this time he also met Manuel Rodríguez Lozano, his tutor and also is lover.

Abraham refused to stop learning and Adolfo kicked him out at just 16, much to the sadness of his sister and mother. It was then that Abraham Ángel Card Valdés dropped his surnames, became known as Abraham Ángel, and moved in with with Manuel.

They were together for several years when Manuel found a new artist and abandoned Abraham. Abraham left feeling depressed and humiliated. He was found dead on October 27 from a cocaine overdose, either an accident or a suicide.

Because he lived a short life he did not have many works. Only about 30 pieces are attributed to him and all are incredibly valuable as he was an important artist of the Post-Revolutionary era in Mexico. Below are some of his works.
